The Yankees have won the AL East and have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They have been the best team in the majors since the All Star break by far, thanks to fantastic pitching and a highpowerd offense.

Now that offense will surely be slowed down when the playoffs start as a result of better opposing pitching, but here are 5 reasons why the overall dominance will continue as the Bombers chase their 27th World Series title.

Andy Pettitte

The veteran left hander has put together a solid season and looks healthy for the playoffs, likely the number three starter. But the regular season is not what Yankee fans care about. It's the postseason, where Andy has been brilliant.

Unlike his teamates CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, Andy has pitched tons of years in the playoffs and has had great success doing so. He has pitched in 11 postseasons and has an ERA of 3.96 in 35 games started and holds a 14-9 record which is the second most wins in playoff history behind only John Smoltz.

Andy will lead by example and help guide the more inexperienced pitchers through the playoffs. He's deffinatley a guy you want on your side come October.

There is no doubt that the Yankees are better at home than on the road. The team is also perfect for the new house with strikeout pitchers and flyball hitters.

The home field advantage throughout the postseason is key for the Yanks because they will face either the Red Sox or the Angels in the ALCS, both of which the Bombers have losing records against on the road. L.A. has been a "House of horrors" as Joe Girardi put it, for the Yanks. They went 2-4 there this year and went 2-7 at Fenway.

The Bombers have lived up to that name this year and taken full advantage of the friendly confines of Yankee Stadium. They set an all time Yankee record for most home runs at home this year. Johnny Damon's swing is perfect for the short porch in right and Mark Teixeira has done some damage that way as well. So the 'wind tunnel' didn't turn out as bad as everyone feared any how.

Hip, Hip, Jorge!

The veteren catcher seems to be an ageless wonder. He's had a great season by any catcher's standards, but to have one like this at 37 and being in the league 13 years, that's unheared of this day in age. Jorge has 22 homeruns with 81 RBI to go with a .290 batting average, which is 12 points higher than his career average.

Posada has not been able to replicate that success in the playoffs throughout his career, he is hitting .236 in 322 postseason at bats. But more importantly than his offense, he will have to guide A.J. Burnett and CC Sabathia through October. A.J. has no playoff experience and CC has had very little and hasn't been very good with a 7.92 ERA for his playoff career. That's where Jorge steps in and with his experience, he's going to help those two alot.

The Captain

Derek Jeter is all buisiness this season and has had another great season on all sides of the ball. His defense is as good as 10 years ago, he's got 30 steals, and he's hitting .330, what more can you ask. How about a World Series title?

Jeter will do everything he can to achieve that goal and make sure his team is doing the same. He has had a remarkable postseason career, hitting .309 with a lot of clutch hits over the years. Look for that success to continue this October as Jeter chases another World Series ring to add to the other four of his magical career.

Mariano The Magnificent

The greatest relief pitcher of all time in the regular season, might very well be the best pitcher of all time in the postseason. He had another great year slamming the door in 2009 and remains the best closer in the league at the young age of 39.

In the playoffs he's nearly unhittable, how unhittable? How about a 0.77 ERA in 117 innings pitched, racking up 34 saves along the way. Pure gold come October, there in't another pitcher I'd want on the mound to finish a game other than Mo. That is something the Yankees will have that no other team can come near to. He is also looking for his 5th career ring.
