The best pitching prospect in baseball is Julio Teheran. This kid is 17, but he is one of the most hyped international pitching prospects in history.

The best picthing prospect in baseball is Julio Teheran. Yes, maybe other such players as Kershaw are ready for the big leagues, but none show as much promise as Teheran. Teheran was signed by the Braves for more money than Felix Hernandez. He was signed at the young age of 16 out of Columbia. When signed, he threw a 94-96 mph fastball, a 79 mph curve with late bite, and an 81-83 mph changeup (Baseball America). His former coach says, "Teheran’s the best [I've] ever seen for his age in Latin America." It was said the Yankees and Tigers offered more money, but he landed in Atlanta because he was a huge Smoltz fan growing up, and Edgar Renteria's cousin (Both Renteria and Teheran hail from Columbia) are very close friends.

”We got him,” said Johnny Almaraz, the Braves’ Director of Latin American Operations. “If you had a wish list, he’d be right at the top.” The Braves don't usually go after international prospects, but they know which are the right guys. Andruw Jones was an exceptional player for them for nine years. Elvis Andrus led them to Mark Teixeira. Yunel Escobar looks like a superstar, and Rafael Furcal, well he's good ole' Raffy.

Mark my words, Teheran will be a future ace comparable to the likes of King  Felix. Teheran will be in the majors by 2011. The kid is special and he will prove it.  Teheran will retire being known as the greatest Colombian pitcher ever.

  1. Why would you make such bold predictions about a 17 year old when you must know so many have been burned before? There have been endless talents before him who have never made it to the majors behind such hype. Sure, it's fun to get excited about prospects, but you should be careful to stake your reputation on prospects. Whatever happened to Jackson Melian? Brien Taylor? Go back to a super stud prospect the M's drafted #3 overall in the 89' draft Roger Salkeld. Lifetime mark 10-10 with a 5.61 ERA.

    1. I am not saying that there have not been failures, but from what read about this kid, he has got the makings of a superstar

    2. Fair enough, but be careful. I just published an article about Felix, check it out for more on annointing players as aces before their time.
