Next up for the Washington Huskies is Notre Dame, who in head coach Steve Sarkisian's first season has already accomplished what Charlie Weis has never come close to doing; beating USC.
Notre Dame will not do what it does best...to try to finesse the Washington Huskies. They will be trying to run the "Wildcat Offense" and run a power football game against Washington.
Big mistake—the Washington Huskies are still stinging from Stanford's loss in Palo Alto. Look for Nick Holt's defense to come out swinging and make a statement early.
Washington will take the shackles off Jake Locker in letting him pass or run the ball. Notre Dame's pass defense has already given up 1,037 yards in four games. If Notre Dame's secondary makes too big of drops, look for Locker to take off running. Locker, who has been clocked under 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, is an imposing threat to run the football.
Washington could be ahead 14-0 before Notre Dame knows what hits them in the head on Saturday. Remember, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff have never lost a game to a Charlie Weiss-coached football team when they were at USC. Coach Sarkisian has developed one helluva scouting book on Notre Dame from the time he was at USC to now, with the Washington Huskies.
The difference between Washington 2008 and 2009 is like night and day. The "Scorched Earth Policy" of Tyronne Willingham is gone. The Huskies are fired up when they hit the field. Most importantly, these players believe right down to the very depth of their souls that they are going to beat Notre Dame on Saturday.
Records are meant to be broken, and the record of Washington never beating Notre Dame on the football field will come to an end this Saturday in South Bend.
