There are so many things I love about football. Every game can have a surprise ending and bring about an unexpected change in the NFL Power Rankings. Here are some football facts to consider after NFL Week 3:
5. Terrell Owens talks again: The Saints defense held T.O. without a catch for the first time since his rookie season in 1996 in the New Orleans' 27-7 win over the Bills.
Owens failed to make a catch despite the five passes thrown his which ended the 185-game streak that was the longest of any active player. It was also the third-longest streak in NFL history, behind Marvin Harrison (190) and Jerry Rice (274).
Of course TO was not going be quiet after the game. “Just going with the plays that are called” said an unhappy Owens. “Whether I like them or don’t, I’m just going with the plays that are called”.
Three weeks was all the Bills lasted without a classic TO comment. Like the ex Patriot Roodney Harris said, “He’s just a clown looking after his personal stats”.
4. Time of possession means nothing: The Miami Dolphins have outplayed their last two opponents in time of possession and have failed to get the win in both cases.
Last Monday Night the Dolphinsgave the ball to the Colts for less than 15 minutes but still lost 27-23. In the past I didn’t think it was a stat to consider, especially if you consider they were against Peyton Manning, the man who only needs 2 seconds to burn you down.
The Colts also dominated the time of possession (32:27 vs. 27:33) in 23-13 loss against the Chargers. The amount of turnovers must be the reason why they are not winning their games despite controlling the ball; they are turning the ball over more times than their opponents.
3. Super Bowl teams falling behind: Have you realized that the Steelers and Cardinals, both last year's Super Bowl teams, have the same record as the Detroit Lions? Shocking, isn’t it?
2. The Bengals (2-1): The Cincinnati team is for real. They won at Lambeau Field last week and if they had more luck they would have won against the Broncos and have a 3-0 record.
Obviously the key for the Bengals good season start is QB Carson Palmer. He hasn’t looked amazing but now Coach Marvin Lewis knows his offense can throw the ball down the field.
1. Steelers (1-2):Contrary to the Bengals, Steelers were not so lucky in week one, their only victory came due to the Titans kicker Rob Bironas missing a field goal.
So far things are not looking good for the Steelers. They are 1-2 in a tough division where the Ravens are already 3-0 and have continued to look strong. The Bengals are 2-1 and can be a candidate to topple the Steel Curtain.
