Ok, in this article I'll talk about something that has been bothering me for a while now: and that's Kimbo Slice.
Slice has become a household name in no time among MMA fans thanks to his YouTube vids, but my very simple question is, is he really worth all the hype?
I've heard alot of people saying that Slice was the next big star in MMA, and that he could take guys like Chuck Liddell and Tim Sylvia. Other people said that Kimbo was nothing and that he would be killed in the UFC.
Here's my opinion on Mr. Slice.
The guy is a great STREET FIGHTER, but seriously I've seen his fights and I'm not impressed. He has no real good technique. He's a STREET FIGHTER. So now that he's a big name with MMA fans, the guy wants to start training to become an MMA fighter and people immediately talk about how he could beat up the likes of Chuck Liddell. I couldn't disagree more.
MMA fighters are professionals. They train in boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and so much more, and to compare Kimbo to these guys is a total lack of respect to them.
I think Kimbo would get outstriked by Liddell any day of the week and by guys not even considered strikers. Do I think Kimbo could defend a takedown? Once out of 10 times maybe.
Then there's this fight Kimbo Slice had with Tank Abbott not that long ago and everybody thinks "Oh my God! Slice completely dominated Tank, he's that good."
Listen people, I could beat Tank! Tank was a sloppy fighter years ago, and he's gotten even worse today. That fight was made for Kimbo to win, Tank was never a good fighter, the fights he won? Well he got lucky.
So I think that if Kimbo Slice (and other people too) thinks he's ready for the UFC. He's crazy. I think he would get beaten in no time, and I would actually like to see it happen, so people could shut up about Kimbo.
Now I would really like to know how you people feel about Kimbo...
Is he here to stay or is he just the flavor of the month?

i couldnt agree with you more i feel the same way he lacks any formal structure and once he's down i think its all over!! there is actually a vid on youtube that shows him getting his butt whooped! and he eventually lost the fight. to tell you the truth it wasnt even against an opponent with any skill either it was just a matter of kimbo's stamina he was tired in about 13 minutes!! he'll get destroyed in ufc against talented martial artists!

In a roundabout way, I agree with your article. Is he still just a street fighter? No. He's been training extensively on his lack of a ground game and working with Bas Rutten and improving every day. Am I saying he could go roll with anyone with a decent wrestling or BJJ pedigree, not at all. I'm just saying it's not foreign to him. Obviously, he needs a few high caliber opponents in order to prove he's the real deal or not. Fighting the likes of Tank Abbat and Bo Cantrel isn't going to prove anything. There's a reason he's fighting in a garbage organization like Elite XC and not in the UFC. In my opinion, minus Nick Diaz, the entire organization lacks serious talent and is an overly promoted joke. Put they're champions vs. UFC champions, no fight would last past 30 seconds. Maybe if you had Lawler and Lee at the same time vs Silva it would be an interesting and fair fight. The major advantage he would have is that the heavy weight division is crap through out MMA. There is Nogera, Fedor, Couture, and who else? They have to pull guys out of the WWE in order to get new talent in the division.
By the way, this article reads at a 3rd grade level.

Know your stuff, guy! Chuck and Kimbo would never fight in the same division. You even said, "He wants to start TRAINING to become an MMA fighter." Um, that's what they all do. It's called training for a reason. He's not trying to get a title fight his first fight. And, they don't ALL practice ALL of the arts you mentioned. Most specialize in specific ones. If you're a fan of MMA and UFC, why wouldn't you want Kimbo in this venue? Think of the publicity! He's a stud, deal with it, cowboy!

well from what i saw last night on cbs it looks to me as if maybe the elitexc is a little to much like the wwe. the first fights they showed loked clasic but the kimbo fight looked to me as though it was a fix. thompson was hurt a lot worse in the 1st round and it wasnt stopped but when it looked as though sluce was going to get his but spanked i am sure the head boys for exc went ohhhhhhh crap and then the second thompson got rocked a little the reff stopped it. ole sluce wouldnt last 2 min with a decent let alone a good mma fighter and a great fighter would well we all saw what fighter on the lower part of the pole did last night..

"Kimbo" Kevin Ferguson was the Main Event of a 3 ring circus that did nothing but tarnish the sport of MMA to those not educated enough about the sport to understand what a complete shamble EliteXC is.
It's a travesty what EliteXC's doing to the sport. Making it a joke, a spectacle, a 3 ring circus. The only good fighters in their entire organization are Diaz, Shields, Lawler, Alverez, Smith & maybe Villasenor. 4 or five good fighters does NOT make a MMA company, much less one that should be making the introduction to the general public.
STRIKFORCE has Cung Le, Misaki, Overeem,,Shamrock, Melendez & Thomson. but that's it. all their other fighters are either washed up or just plain jokes.
The fact that they're headlining MMA's debut into mainstream is apocryphal. I almost want to feel bad for the good fighters who are stuck in that organization. But i dont, because they're at least getting paid better than they would at the UFC.
I find it pathetic though that EliteXC, despite the large endorsement money fighters could get from network TV & their higher payouts, still cant get a decent roster of good fighters. Gary Shaw truly is a bane on the sport of MMA.
Not only is the roster anemic to the point that theyd be lucky to put on 2 good shows before running out of fighters; But the the whole event production wreaks of WWE. If they want to do it right they should look at PRIDE's old tapes. Exciting & classy w/ fights you can actually take serious. Shaw takes all the respect & spirit out of MMA and leaves it a empty shell of (what only the naive would consider) a MMA company.

Kimbo Slice is a Black Gerry Cooney. He has fought a bunch of setups and tomato cans and looked spectacular doing it. Gerry Cooney looked spectacular against washed up Ron Lyle and Ken Norton. I saw the fight where Kimbo got beat. Not just beat, he was completly dismantled and trampled by an opponent that was not willing to stand in front of him and trade. Kimbo will fall against his first real opponent and the fall will be big.

I have a question why do people who have no idea about the sport decide they want to say kimbo is awesome.. Plain and simple he has great punching power and that's it.. He has no ground game what so ever.. Case in point thompson is terrible and he took kimbo down ohhhh i don't know 6-10 times easily.. Second of all his conditioning is horrible.. He could not even hold himself up for his interview after the fight his crew was holding him up.. And as far as liddell's wrestling he has great wrestling.. He was a Division 1 wrestler.. He was recruited by Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, University for wrestling.. So please before you want to shoot off your mouth about the sport know something about it.. Maybe with the right training, kimbo may one day be a decent fighter but he will never hold a belt.. Well at least he wont in good divisions like the UFC, or the WEC..

Sorry Tyler, Kimbo's not REALLY fighting in the MMA until he faces a real opponent. Sean Gannon is not a real opponent. Kimbo is a Street Fighter-----HUGE difference from what MMA really stands for--that is Mixed Martial Arts. He has NO skill. He is however a big, tough, brawler and is currently being trained in the arts. He is just beginning though. So, if he can continue to fight nobody's for a little while and stall his entrance into Dana Whites' Octagon while he trains, who knows. But for now, there is a reason he hasn't fought the likes of Lidell, Sylvia,Ortiz,Jackson or anyone else in the UFC--He doesn't stand a chance with them. Actually, the true pros are so pissed with the disrespect that they are chompin at the bit to get a hold of Kimbo. Trust me, Dana White is the best at putting togather fights. I see him giving the fans what they want in the near future and that is Kimbo in the UFC octagon against a REAL opponent. We can argue all day long about Kimbo---but------all is answered in the octagon. Personally, I'm pulling for the guy and I say--train hard Kimbo, and learn the arts as fast as you can!!!! Peace-out.

I also agree. I work with some youth and they couldn't wait to show me Kimbo. He is a street fighter and a bad ass without a doubt and maybe if he trained in martial arts, he could be good, but anyone who thinks a street fighter will take on and defeat a professional martial artist is crazy. I hold a 5th degree black belt and as I watched Kimbo overreach with every punch, I knew I could easy pull him off balance or side step and go over the top. We are trained to defend ourselves and counter attack. It's totally different than street fighting where people just go all out and if you connect, bam.. knockout! At least that's my opinion. But hey, I am not a Kimbo hater, I hope he makes a ton of money and is able to take care of his family. Wish I was in my 20's again and the "Toughest Man Competition" was as big as this, I'd be making a pile of cash too.

Actually I am more interested in seeing Jessy get in the ring with Tank and beat him than I am about Kimbo. Only time will tell about Kimbo, but that sounds like a challenge for Tank. I would order that fight on pay per view.

I liked that Jessie vs Tank match up too. Tank is a beast. Is a trained martial arts expert? Of course not but I still might take him vs Jessie. MMA is a sport and Tank had alot of the tools needed in the sport before it started to develope. Kimbo has alot of tools too. I agree and disagree. Yes Kimbo is a street fighter and a damn good one, but I highly doubt he could stay in the ring long. I really doubt that he could beat Chuck Liddell or Tim Silva or any of UFC's good fighters. But Tank Abott was not lucky, he fought fights he should win and did, thats not luck, then he got too old too quick. The match between those two would have been much better 5 years ago. They are powerful punchers but not UFC quality champs in todays UFC. Kimbo has not had a real fight yet, when he does he will lose. But I am sure he will make money on the Kimbo Slice Street Fighter video game.

I am with you 100%.. he was a fluke and wasn't going nowhere with what he had in hands. however, this newly recruited MMA fighter has stepped up a notch and started training with one of the best MMA fighters ever, Bas Rutten, this dutch fighter is a master in taek won do and kyokushin karate. Along with many other skills, Bas Rutten has proved everyone how great of a fighter and a trainer he is with his accomplishments throughout his career. now the question is will kimbo get the best out of the situation? I think not, simply because he doesnt have the mental structure of a professional fighter. If he does, he's here to stay.. better believe it because he's a really strong guy but strenght is not all in MMA. as a MMA fighter i would say skills and technique cover 80% of the sport competition wise. therefore, he's definetly not going to survive in the UFC or any kind of a major league of MMA but there is always the chance that he might stay where he is and win a lot of matches to become a big name in the sport.

The guy was dangerous as a street fighter and Now he's working out with professionals, getting his cardio in and learning new techniques, that could only make him even more dangerous!!! On top of that he's relatively young. I think liddell would go down with one punch that kimbo connects his jaw so would wanderlei sylva, tim Sylvia etc. I do think there's alot of guys in the ufc that do not want anything to do with kimbo out of fear of getting knocked out cold. We will just have to wait and see!!!

First of all, he's not relatively young, he's in his 30s, and although people like Randy Couture can fight into their early 40s, they're the exception, not the rule. Second, Kimbo is completely one dimensional, and any decent MMA fighter will beat him easily. As Pat Militech recently said, if you want to see what Kimbo can do, put him up against a top 10 Heavyweight. They can keep feeding him scrubs like they've been doing, but until he takes on a top 10 guy, he'll have no respect from anyone who matters. At this point I think Anderson Silva could probably take Kimbo out in less than a minute and he's at 185. Fedor, Tim Sylvia, Big Nog; any of these guys would beat or choke Kimbo unconscious in less than a minute.

He fought on guy (and yes he is powerful AND he has unreal wresteling credentials), Frank Meir... and hes NOT at the top of his game YET... and he got his ass SUBMITTED!!! SO WOULD KIMBO! Kimbo Slice right now is not a UFC elite. But Kimbo Slice right now has all the tools to be one with the right training. Which is what he is doing right now with Bas Ruetten. He is taking the tools he posses of being athletic, strong, quick for his size, heart, and fearless and learning the trade. Which is exactly what Iceman, Tito Ortiz, the Shamrocks, and any other MMA great did when the started. If you want to compare then compare those MMA greats when they started to Kimbo as he is starting. Most of you people never been in a ring, octagon, or mat with another person who sole purpose is to take you down- so stop jumping on bandwagons and watch a man that has the tools learn the trade and become good MMA fighter.
Did you people shoot down Iceman, Tito, Randy "The Natural" and all the other greats 3 fights into thier career? Or did you wait for them to become an elite and jump on thier bandwagons?

For most of you Bandwagoner's "Tomatoe Cans" are fights taken by fighters to not only pad their record but also to learn the trade. Learning what to do when an opponent is quicker, stronger, can take a punch, and even if he is out of shape and weak the purpose would be to learn how to finish a fight.

KIMBO HAS BEEN TRAINING IN MMA!! He is going to be ready. He started training over a year ago. This is a long time waiting. He has probably already had fights off the record to get him ready for this. I definitely am waiting to see if he will have the stamina o go for rounds. Because of his weight and height, he as a very low center of gravity. If he only learned jiu-jitsu, judo, and never learned how to grapple he'd be ok because the people he is going to fight will be taller than he is almost always, therefore he wont be taken to the ground by them because of his low center of gravity. He may not even need his stamina. This is not like any of the other boxers who actually were pro and switched over to get their asses kicked, Kimbo will knock people out with just a couple punches landed correctly. Gannon that he fought over 5 years ago, was at least 30 pounds heavier, and look how he did. This is ENTERTAINMENT!!

Dude, if Kimbo's success bothers you then "get over it." Is he the best? Probably not, but he still puts his own ass on the line and risk bodily injury every time he fights. anybody can get caught and get knocked out, it's the nature of the sport but kimbo is not at that level to beat guys like chuck or any of the big names in the UFC.. he should go back to streets and continue his legecy there.. you cant become a MMA fighter over night!! or through poor quality fighting videos, he's got a long way to go before he can challenge top guys.

At the end of the day, the company's intentions will prevail...everyone is going to watch which is all they care about. The Kimbo fans will want to see him win and the haters will want to see him get his butt handed to him. The big picture is that whether he is the real deal or not, we all will be watching. Coming straight from the street most fighters would get beat by the top MMA fighters...but Kimbo has been training with Bas as somebody mentioned earlier and with his natural boxing skill and toughness he could pose a real threat to the MMA guys if he gets his conditioning and mental game on.

I remember when my son of 20 years old asked if I have seen this guy name Kimbo Slice on YOUTUBE. I expressed to him. Never heard about this guy. So one night I went and pulled up Kimbo on the TUBE and watched him fight in the backyard brawls for about 2 hours that night. I'm inpressed with his chin. He is also a natural street fighter. I wasn't impressed with his cardio. He show's that if the fight goes longer then 4 minutes then he will be in trouble. I do believe if he receives the proper training with a professional fighter and increase his cardio then he will do fine. But enough about KIMBO lets talk about Mike Tyson fighting in the UFC. I wonder how come Dana White hasn't put together a fight including Iron Mike in the Octagon. Now that would be something to watch. I do feel that there is still alot of people in the MMA that wouldnt want to trade a punch with Iron Mike. I know I'm one.
But as for Jessy taking on Tank. All Jessy has to do is run around the Octagon for about 2 minutes and hand Tank a hamburger and its over. I would love to see Jessy take on the Iron Mike Kid though.

Kimbo slice is indeed a great street fighter. He has the size and the talent to be able to compete against opponents like Chuck Liddell......,but not quite yet. Kimbo knows that, thats why he is training to get that level. Yeah he was winded in that video where he got beat, but by no means was he in any kind of shape to be competing in a 13 minute fight when his normal bouts are 4 min knockouts. With proper training and conditioning Kimbo will be able to compete amongst elite UFC and MMA fighters.

MMA Fighters may have training in several different forms of martial arts, but it is very rare that they use it. A friend of mine got me interested in "Ultimate Fighter." He was a hardcore Quinton "Rampage" Jackson fan and wanted me to see him fight. I thought I had finally found a replacement for boxing; which over the last few years has been lacking in my opinion. Watching Rampage and even Anderson Silva was a real treat. The majority of the other fighters, who's names I will leave out, spend the entire fight on the floor. What training is needed to roll around on the floor doing something that resembles sex more than a martial arts? Kimbo slice squares off and takes on his opponent blow for blow. You can call him a "street fighter" all you want, but Ultimate Fighter is not ready for someone the likes of Kimbo Slice. Not do to his supposed lack of training; but because that federation has only a handful of fighters that could make a worthy opponent. Fighting, in any form, is an art. If I want to watch floor sex, I'll buy porn.

Hey! What is with everyone? Hows come this can't be a guy who has a chance to be a star for 15 minutes or better? If I had this chance to shine at anything I considered myself good at then guess what, I'm taking it. So what if he can't beat Chuck Liddel, they would'nt fight anyhow. Kimbo is a heavyweight, Chuck, light heavyweight. Kimbo is not calling himself the face of MMA, promoters are doing that to drum up interest for future fights. Folks should stop hatin'. Kimbo is not going to single-handedly bring down the level of interest or respect people have for the MMA. The man is an internet phenom who is trying to make a bigger name for himself. I feel that folks must be intimidated by this man who could bring some real challenge to some already established fighters in the genre. 'nuff said!

MMA, if there is anything thats overhyped, its the MMA. You call it Mixed Martial Arts. I call it structured fighting until the first real punch is landed, then it declines to your everyday street fight, only you can tap-out as oppose to get beat unconcious. So where does Kimbo Slice fit in to all this. Chuck Lidell doesn't want nothing to do with Kimbo, Sylva doesn't want nothing to do with Kimbo. Kimbo Slice is the "Real Deal" you peasant

this is a huge mistake on cbs part. huge mistake. this guy is a joke. i am not commenting on the man, i am only commenting on his fighting ability in the octagon, or ring. he has no, no ground game, yeah he is a puncher, big deal, he is "famous" from his you tube spots, his backyard fights. what were they ? stand up ? let him be taken to the ground and see where he fares. it is mixed martial arts, not boxing martial arts. Now don't get me wrong. boxing is one hell of a sport and getting hit by a boxer is like getting kicked by a mule. butthis is a different style, a different art. he has not business being the face of MMA on national TV.

First, I made it a point to explain that when you "fight" someone you should go toe-to-toe. Wrestling is not "fighting," it is a sport within itself. MMA stands for "Mixed Martial Arts." Floor wrestling is not and has never been a martial art. Here is a short history lesson for you: Wrestling has been around since before 2500 B.C. It was later introduced to the Greek culture by the Egyptians. Back then, being a homosexual was considered blasphemy and going against "The Gods." They changed the original form of wrestling to more closely resemble what is now called "Greco Roman." It involved what you call "the ground end of MMA," this gave them a way to exercise sexual tension without offending their Gods. Don't believe me...Go research it for yourself!

First of all, you cannot beat Tank Abbott. Second, he is not a street fighter. Street fighters are the people he was fighting in the street, the ones who have no head movement, bad footwork and get out of control. The fact that he stays calm, under control and throw counter punches as well as ducks and weaves fights thrown makes him far from a street fighter. Street fighters just go out, get wild, throw some punches and try to slam some one, that is not Kimbo. The fact is, you could probably not beat any of the STREET FIGHTERS Kimbo fought on youtube. People like you have no idea what separates a street fighter from an actual fighter.

Kimbo would have been perfect for the UFC before they went all pussified with weight classes, standups, rounds, and "no kicking a downed opponent" type rules. In the last 10 years, UFC has gone the way of boxing. He'll never ever ever ever fight Chuck Lidell (he sucks BTW). Kimbo would fight heavyweight, thus fighting someone like Tim Silvia. Who couldn't beat Tim Silvia? He's slow, retarded, weak, and likes to fight people a foot shorter than him.

ok so i have a little skill when i comes to street fighting then i trained for jiu jitsu and i seen the difference in my abilities change so much that what i was good at became weaknesses as i became trained to be conformed and follow the proper steps. yes learning how to do other shit then just grab someone and twist them in ways the body doesnt go or throw them when needed is great but if he learns to fast he will lose his greatest ability his basic animal instinct to just kill while he makes precise decisions. Either way it dont think he will make it. He is just someone that will make money for a promoter do to his size and popularity before he was even known to the world. Its a great Marketing tactic but he will get his ass kicked if he tried to fight anyone that knows how to grapple and make people submit. KIMBO is just the flavor of the month so live it up,while you can.

kimbo maybe overrated, but he is traning with bas rutten and im sure he's sparring with top notch guys.only time will tell whats up with kimbo i will say that if his cardio is good and he gets some ground skills he has a punchers chance.

OK, lets go over Kimbo Slice. First, you would have to have seen his street fights. Some of them were no counts, guys that just can't fight. However, he did fight a few guys, most notably 'Chico', that *can* fight. And was in excellent condition. Kimbo is a street fighter. But you have to look at why he was so succesfull on the streets. He's naturally big, *extremely* strong, can definately take a big punch, and as far as I'm concerned (I've watched all of his fights) can hit as hard as anyone on the planet. Next, Kimbo has NO fear, of anyone. Now, to the MMA. No, Kimbo does not yet have the skills that top tier fighters have. However, he has an equalizer. His ability to hit *that* hard, and very accurately. If you look at kimbo during his street fights, you'll notice even though he's built hard, he's big, and carries extra weight. In the 2 MMA fights I've seen him in, he's lost that weight. Training, the man is already a beast, and now to make matters worse (for everyone else) he's working out. Those arleady bone crushing blows, are getting harder. Now Tank might not be a great MMA fighter, however one thing I can say is he CAN hit, hard. Kimbo took 2 direct blows to the face from this guy, and it never fazed Kimbo. So I know he take a big punch. He's also training with one of the best trainers in the business in Bas Rutten. You can bet Bas will have Kimbo 'well rounded' within 2 years. And as Kimbo continues to bloat those naturaly hard muscles, I'm going to tell you right now, he *will* destroy every other MMA fighter in the business. His strength is enough to get him out of ground positions. He'll be able to break just about anyone's hold on the ground so I'm going to say he's not going to fail to submission holds. You have to understand, just how strong this man is. He's an animal. I like Chuck liddel... I really do and I'd love to see him come back to the top. But if Kimbo is thrown into that group any time soon, Chuck ain't gonna make it. I don't believe chuck could go one round with Kimbo. Chuck has a freaky chin, it's hard to beat him standing up and striking. But I'll absolutely promise you, if Kimbo lands a clean shot to that freaky chin, Chuck will go down. When Kimbo first hit the MMA scene, Tito said he'd get killed by any top tier fighter. Since that statement, he's recnated and said.. He's tough. Tito thought he would do very well, even against the lower fighters he's fought so far, but after seeing how destructively he ended the fights, even Tito knows now. And I'm sure you all will see this as well in the coming fights. Kimbo fights tonight, live on CBS this evening. My predition... Total obliteration of James Thompson, and anyone else that has the yarbles to get in the cage with him...

Of course we're going to watch the fight tonight. We are drawn to violence, now with that said, I admire the will of a man to engage in hand to hand combat where your only alternative to victory is defeat. Now bottle that up and stand across the ring from a man of the likes of a Kimbo Slice, you have to be one big pain freak to even answer the challenge! Is he the real deal, stay tuned. But to all you haters out there, a few words of advice: you can hate on Kimbo, but please, don't hate him with your money, you'll lose every time.

Not one of you know what you're talking about. Also, you can't say who would win fights until they happen. It isn't predictable. I really like the fact that the only MMA Fighting all of you know is UFC and you say Kimbo is one dimensional. For those of you saying that certain people suck and whatnot, if you are so bold to say it get yourself in the gym and train then go fight one of these guys that suck and see what happens to you. Quit bickering like a bunch of elementary girls and just watch the fight.

first off jessy you can't beat Tank...be for real. second of all i am impressed by kimbo's street fights. the guy always handled his business! didn't talk much at all...just took his shirt off and went straight into it. of course there are different styles in the UFC, but not all fighters in the UFC have like 5 different styles. i say if you have something that works for you, then do it. until kimbo is beaten i see nothing wrong with his style of fighting. kimbo even did a lil vid calling chuck out. where is chuck on that? then when kimbo does beat some one yall say is UFC i'm sure you all will have more reasons why kimbo won that fight too. whether it be it was the weakest or less skilled guy in the UFC or "kimbo got lucky". kimbo said in an interview while he was training that he gave up all his bad habits to be more serious about his training....like drinking, sex, and drugs. the guy is dedicated. look at kimbo's shape now and then look at the videos when he was street fighting. impressive! also PAUL look on youtube and type in RAMPAGE. then see that fight in ring when SILVIA knees the heck out of rampage and knocks him out. watch it.

Don't you nieve people get it. I think MMA is afraid of what Kimbo Slice might do to there empire. If he enters the MMA and dominates, then what good is all the hype and buzz about Mixed Martial Arts. If a so called Street-fighter can dominate. Comparing Kimbo to trained martial artists is like comparing a street-hustling chess player with the world's best professional chess players. It's just not the same thing.
Is Kimbo a tremendous natural fighter? Yes. Can Kimbo take a beating. Yes. Is Kimbo a trained professional with varied technical prowess? No, at least not on a par with those competing in todays' pro MMA scene.
Kimbo would be a tremendous underdog in any fight with an experienced professional MMA. I'd like to see the fight though. We really don't know how good he is. We can see his heart and we can see his technical limitations.
I say throw him in there and let's see what he can do and what he can't do. Let's see how he functions as he's getting beat. Then we can answer the more important question - is he capable of learning or just a dumb brute. I think Kimbo may surprise us all afterward if he gets in with the right group and starting learning how to be a technical fighter.

Alright Kimbo Slice is a bad mofo. Nobody I know personally could take him mainly due to power and size. He is a legend street fighter and that is far as his legacy will go. I too saw him lose a street fight on you tube. The guy was the same size and you could tell his opponent had very little martial arts training. The guy dominated Kimbo. Kimbo just laid there for half the match just trying to get his breathe. I give Kimbo props on Tank Johnson. I thought Tank would give him a better fight even though he is old and washed up. Kimbo will not be a successful martial arts fighter unless he actual trains and studies some sort of martial arts.

Now ever since Kimbo came into MMA he has been showing the sport and it fighter nothing but respect he brought more money into the sport do his fan following. It's amazing how Gary Shaw and Mark Cuban's hype has worked. They're going to laugh while there taking the money to the bank and giving MMA a bad name. Kimbo Slice has no place in MMA, no ILLEGAL fighter should. He's just Cuban and Shaw's cash cow. They used this ILLEGAL streetfighter to build up hype for there joke of a MMA league. Which by the way is going to set the MMA back a rung on the ladder of success, rather than help it. This is a league of mostly has-been's and wannabe's. They do have Lawler, Diaz and Edwards, but that's it. And out of those fighters Diaz is the only one that has his carreer in front of him and not behind him. Personaly I think real MMA fans should send a message to Shaw and Cuban about their ILLEGAL streetfighter Kimbo Slice and the rest of their joke league, AND NOT WATCH.

Slice is a better than average striker. He can also take a punch. Tank was sloppy, but he was still a hard puncher and he could not even make Kimbo blink. Brock Lesner or someone of his caliber will beat Kimbo badly. Brock is an honest to God wrestler with phenomenal strength and athletic ability. He also has a big height and weight advantage. Right now, Kimbo is doing EXACTLY what the MMA world wants him to do. He is putting asses in seats. It is fun to watch a street brawl, but this is not street brawling, it is MMA. Kimbo will keep on putting asses in seats even after he takes his first loss. After the second loss (and it is coming), he will no longer be a significant factor in the sport. I do wish him luck. He is a great brawler and he is fun to watch. Make your money, man.

Chuck Liddell is, or possibly was, one of the best in MMA. He didn't earn the belt he won by not being able to fight. He fought the best there was to get his belt. However, Chuck, much like Kimbo, relies mostly on 1. His striking ability, and 2. his freaky chin. Chuck, and possibly no one can hit as hard as Kimbo can. Kimbo also has a very tough chin. What those of you who believe that a great MMA well rounded fighter can do is take him with a submission. Would you listen to what your saying??? You want an inexperianced MMA fighter to take on the best there is? No one does that. No one. And even though I believe Kimbo would fair well with most, no, right now he's not ready for top tiered fighers. Lets be realistic here. Ali didn't fight the best, Sugar Ray Leanoard didn't take on the best when he first started. Niether did Mike Tyson. You HAVE to start at the beginning no matter who you are or how bad you are. Everyone starts with the low levels. Mike Tyson destroyed everyone he fought in his first 10 fights. Let's stop comparing Kimbo with top tier fighters, and let him gain the experience he needs. You're going to see tonight what he can do again. And he'll continue to do it at this level until no one will get into the ring with him. And that will happen. THEN, he'll start leveling up with the better fighters. Kimbo want's to fight Chuck now. And I honestly believe he would take Chuck. But I don't think he'd fair as well with other top tier fighters. Let's stop comparing him with the best of the best, and see how he fairs. It won't be long and you will see the matches you're talking about now. But for the next year or so, he's relagated to fight others that have the type of experience he has.

Brock Lesnar would own Kimbo Slice. If you want to talk about the next big thing, Kimbo ain't it. He's already past his prime and he's completely unskilled. While he's enormously strong and has a chin like a metal plate, all it'd take is a half-decent grappler to take him down.
Lesnar's first fight included a single rookie mistake that cost him the win. You want to talk about a future dominant fighter in the UFC? Kimbo Slice's name doesn't even come up.

I had never even heard of this guy before he started popping up on SportsCenter and 60 Minutes!

I will agree with that. I don't think he'll probably beat other skilled fighters at this point. But in a match in which to see whose the best brawler like for instance a Liddell- Slice fight. I'll put my money on Slice. And Ramon, I'd come down there and fight you. Get to Slice's level and then try and call out someone. I'm not trying to be mean but you are a nobody.
