The No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels became the only top seed to advance to the 2016 Final Four on Sunday with a win over the No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the East region final at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

North Carolina moved on to its first national semifinal since 2009 and the Tar Heels will face the No. 10 Syracuse Orange in Houston on Saturday.

Both teams were on fire in the first half as they combined to shoot over 60 percent from the field.

The game changed in the second half as both the Tar Heels and Fighting Irish went on significant runs. Notre Dame inched ahead for 20 seconds thanks to a 12-0 run, but the Tar Heels answered right away with a commanding 10-0 run of their own.

After Roy Williams and company surged ahead by way of the run halfway through the second half, they didn't look back.

Brice Johnson scored 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Tar Heels. Demetrius Jackson contributed 26 points in defeat for the Irish.
