First out of the hat were Wolfsburg, soon followed by the most successful team in the competition's history, Real Madrid:

No excuse for Real Madrid to not be in the semis... #UCLDraw

Knock-out football, innit... Juve and Atletico (or Barca) are better teams than Real Madrid but it'll be Real probably in the semis.

They were followed by Bayern Munich and Benfica:

Bayern to lose 2-0 to Benfica in the first leg, then win the second 18-1. Wolfsburg… gah

Then came the Spanish affair. Holders Barcelona were drawn to face Atletico Madrid in a repeat of the 2013/14 quarter-final:

Luis Enrique's Barca have won all six of their meetings with Diego Simeone’s Atletico over the last two seasons.

1 - Barcelona have won just one of their last 6 Champions League games against Spanish teams (D3 L2). Battle.

And poor old Atleti. Never get it easy in CL quarter-final draws. Add to this the sense that Barça appear to have worked them out...

— Andy Brassell (@andybrassell) March 18, 2016

Time for Simeone to come up with a successful plan at the 7th attempt. Luis Enrique with it over him in all six games they’ve met. 6 and 0.

Barcelona-Atletico will be like one of those YouTube videos where they drop lava on ice.

That left Manchester City to face PSG, who conquered Chelsea in the last round and have already wrapped up Ligue 1:

PSG v Man City eh. Woof. That should be a cracker.
