World No. 1 Roger Federer has withdrawn from the forthcoming Japan open and ATP 1000 event in Shanghai.

Federer, who reached the finals of the US Open two weeks ago, has had a very busy year and became a father for the first time in the summer. He is expected to be back for the Masters 1000 event in Paris and the World Championship Finals in London.

Federer has enjoyed an excellent year so far. He won the French Open for the first time and he regained his Wimbledon title.

That triumph at Wimbledon made Federer the most prolific Grand Slam Champion of all time; indeed, that has prompted many to regard Federer as the greatest tennis player of all time.

Federer has reached the finals of all four Grand Slams this year; he lost an epic five-set match to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open.

The Swiss maestro has made it quite clear that he aims to play at the 2012 Olympics in London.

If Federer can maintain the form he has shown this year, then he has every chance of upsetting the Betting Odds and winning Olympic Gold in 2012.
