Manchester City made the 1,700-mile trip to Ukraine on Wednesday for their Champions League round-of-16 tie with Dynamo Kiev.

On a bitterly cold evening, the home side threatened Joe Hart's goal a few times in the opening movements, but City striker Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with a superb finish:

The self-service volley marked the Argentinian's 16th goal in his last 17 Champions League starts. Five minutes before half-time, City's progress to the final eight was boosted when David Silva doubled their advantage:

City played an excellent first half and looked comfortable coming out after the interval. However, just before the hour mark, Vitaliy Buyalsky's shot deflected off of Nicolas Otamendi to bring the Ukrainians back into the game:

Kiev had a chance to equalise in the 78th minute, but Buyalsky's effort was pushed wide by Joe Hart:

Minutes later, Yaya Toure missed a golden opportunity to make it 3-1:

In the dying seconds, however, Toure made amends with a superb strike:

The game finished 3-, with City truly in the driving seat to progress to the next round.
