Red Bull Air Race: Reporter's Diary Day 1

I got to Detroit this afternoon from Toronto with a bit of trouble at the border due to Homeland Security’s extra precautions of the border area for the upcoming Red Bull Air Race. After checking in and settling down into my room, I got my briefing and media kit. Afterwards, I looked around the GM Place, which happens to be the world headquarters of General Motors and walked around their exhibition of historical and relic vehicles, such as the various pace cars from the Indianapolis 500.

After exploring the scintilla of automotive and automotive racing history that was available to me at a stone’s throw, I hopped onto the Detroit People Mover, or DPM, a sort of monorail, towards Greektown where I was bound to find something delicious and hearty. I was not disappointed!

I stopped over at Pizza Papalis for some Chicago-style deep dish pizza and boy was it delicious, and at a reasonable price. After that, I hopped back onto the DPM and got a very nice view of Detroit from above while in the process.

Overall, a very interesting day, and I was only around for a few hours. I can only imagine what the next few days will shape up to be!
