Real Madrid looked to continue their unbeaten run in this season's UEFA Champions League when they travelled to Rome for the first leg of their last-16 tie against Roma.
Los Blancos topped Group A with a record of five wins and one draw, while Luciano Spalletti's side finished runners-up to Barcelona in Group E.
The omens weren't looking good for the home side:
Neither side could break the deadlock in the first half, but up stepped Cristiano Ronaldo 10 minutes into the second half to put the visitors in front:
William Vainqueur came agonisingly close to scoring an equaliser after being teed up by Edin Dzeko:
Ronaldo and Dzeko also narrowly missed before Jese doubled the advantage for Madrid in the 86th minute.
And that was how it finished, with Zinedine Zidane's side winning 2-0 ahead of the second leg at the Bernabeu in three weeks' time.
