Joel Matip has made 63 interceptions in the league this season; at least 16 more than any Liverpool player. https://t.co/KVVshxsBR9

The Cameroonian joins Liverpool from the Bundesliga, a league Reds boss Jurgen Klopp knows well from his time with Borussia Dortmund:

Liverpool to sign Matip on a free transfer - Klopp gets his man from BVB's arch-rivals. Once a Dortmunder, always a Dortmunder, I suppose

— Clark Whitney (@Mr_Bundesliga) February 15, 2016

Nice to see that Klopp still wants Schalke to suffer. ❤️ #echteliebe #matip https://t.co/ZkHNq0j5Yg

Horst Heldt, the Schalke manager “His decision is nothing against Schalke . He wants to try something new.” #Matip #LFC

Liverpool fans on Twitter seemed pretty happy with the signing:

Great to see Liverpool moving swiftly and decisively in the market, Grujic and Matip in for a full pre-season under Jurgen Klopp. #LFC

Joel Matip and Marko Grujic signed for a grand total of £5.1million. Shrewd business.

Matip is a quality signing! #LFC

No idea what matip is like but surely he can't be worse than what we have got

While those in the know backed Matip to succeed in the Premier League:

Verstaile, athletic, physical and, above all, composed. Joel #Matip boasts qualities that #LFC have been sorely lacking at CB.

— James Thorogood (@JMThorogood) February 15, 2016

For any #lfc fans wondering about Matip, he's come on leaps and bounds as a CB in last two years. Strong in the air and athletic.

— Kevin Hatchard (@kevinhatchard) February 15, 2016

Matip will move to Anfield at the end of the 2015/16 season.
