The Los Angeles Times has reported that Anderson Silva will be defending his middleweight belt at UFC 108 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Jan. 2, 2010. His opponent is rumored to be Vitor Belfort, who is coming off his big win over Rich Franklin at UFC 103.
Apparently Vitor has verbally agreed to fight Silva. His camp is reporting that Joe Silva gave him the call. So much for Dan Henderson getting his rematch.
Belfort is on a five-fight win streak and was recently acquired from Affliction. He is a former UFC light-heavyweight champion and will now get a chance to become the third fighter in UFC history to win a belt in two different weight classes.
