Before he earned a trip to Super Bowl 50 and became the newest face of the NFL, Cam Newton was in a car accident.

It was bad.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback had his vehicle flipped “two or three times” on Dec. 9 last season and emerged with two fractures in his lower back, per the Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Jones on NFL Network.

Newton returned two weeks later and helped Carolina finish the year on a four-game winning streak.

On Thursday, the team's Twitter account posted a picture of the potential NFL MVP wearing the hospital bracelet from the crash. It’s the yellow one in the picture and dons the words "never forget the journey."
