Andy Roddick Roddick went into the 2003 US Open as the overwhelming favourite to win his first Grand Slam title. Roddick had won the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters titles just before the Open and was the in form player on the ATP tour leading into the final major of the year in 2003.

In fact, Roddick's only loss between Wimbledon and the US Open was in the Semi Finals of the Legg Mason ATP Event in Washington DC, where he lost in a final set tiebreaker to the British No. 1 Tim Henman. Henman just missed out on being seeded for the Open by one place and, ironically he drew Andy Roddick in the first round.

Although Henman put up a spirited performance and he even served for the second set it was Roddick who emerged victorious in straight sets 6-3 7-6 6-3. Roddick went on to win the title that year, and he has been America's best tennis player for almost a decade now.

If Roddick finds his best form then it would take a brave person to Bet against him winning another major before he retires.
