Reported Chelsea and Liverpool transfer target Alex Teixeira has spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League, adding fuel to the rumours the Shakhtar Donetsk star could be on his way to England in January.

Speaking to Globo (h/t talkSPORT), the Brazilian made it clear he is ready to leave his current club, and he confirmed an offer is on the table:

I would like to move in this transfer window and have told them [Shakhtar] that. They have received a very good offer and they are working on a solution.

But if I don’t go now then I will leave in the summer.

After six years in Europe and with Shakhtar, we are ready to move and I have spoken to my wife and daughter.

It is my desire to move to a big league and I know that the English league is very strong. I am ready and I know that I will grow up a lot there.

I am aware that two big clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea are interested but I haven’t given my word to either of them.

I am not ruling out other leagues but I do want to play in the Premier League.

Those are encouraging words for Chelsea and Liverpool, who have both been linked with Teixeira, per the report.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is enjoying a sensational campaign in Ukraine, scoring an incredible 22 goals in just 13 matches. His success has carried over to the Champions League, where he has found the net an additional three times, per WhoScored.com.

He has long been touted as one of Shakhtar's top talents but took his time reaching his potential in Europe. The departure of Douglas Costa, who joined Bayern Munich during the summer, was exactly what Teixeira needed.

Combined with tricky winger Bernard, he gives the team an incredible, creative punch in support of the main striker, and his surging runs into the box cause havoc every single match. Per football commentator John Bradley, his hot form should be taken seriously:

Shakhtar have an incredible reputation for finding Brazilian talent and cultivating those players into star contributors. Teixeira, Costa and Bernard are three strong examples, while Chelsea already have a former Shakhtar star on the books in Willian.

Teixeira seems more than ready to be the next to move abroad to a major club, and such a transfer would be well-deserved. The numbers he has put up this season are staggering for an attacking midfielder, and as you can see in these highlights, his tools are legit:

Liverpool are in desperate need of another goalscorer, but Teixeira is an attacking midfielder, not a striker. The Reds already field Philippe Coutinho in the centre of the pitch, which is where Teixeira does most of his damage.

Chelsea would undoubtedly be a better fit, as Teixeira would immediately provide some major competition for Oscar, whose development continues to crawl at a slow pace. Oscar remains a fantastic, albeit inconsistent player, but Teixeira is a far superior scoring threat who would make an instant impact at Stamford Bridge.

Shakhtar are more likely to sell during the summer, unless any Premier League club is willing to meet their valuation before the end of the January window. If the Blues or Reds bite the bullet and cough up the cash, the Brazilian could be plying his trade in England soon.
