Chelsea Transfer News: Major Signings Wanted by Guus Hiddink Amid Latest Rumours

Chelsea have reportedly enquired about the availability of Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva.

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Uche Amako in the Express), the Blues have been in contact with Silva's representatives as they look to bolster their central-defensive options.

Currently, the Blues's options in the centre-back region are the ageing John Terry and inconsistent duo Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma.

The addition of Silva would be a huge boon for the struggling west London side in the short term.

The Brazilian is unquestionably one of the best centre-backs in the world, and he was recently voted into the FIFA/FIFPro World XI for 2015:

He is hugely experienced and would be the ideal successor as a defensive leader to Terry—although, at 31, he would not be a long-term buy.

It seems highly unlikely that PSG would be willing to let their captain go.

He is contracted to the Ligue 1 champions until 2018 and has been a stalwart of their side since his arrival at the Parc des Princes in 2012.

Should Chelsea pursue the signing of Thiago Silva?

PSG may be tempted by a mammoth offer from the Blues, but, given that Silva is over 30, there would be little value in the Stamford Bridge outfit splashing huge cash on the former AC Milan man.

Chelsea's current issue at the back in the long term is that their key players are drawing to the end of their careers—Terry is 35, Cahill 30 and Branislav Ivanovic 31.

In order to revitalise their defence, Chelsea need to bring in young defenders who can make up their back line over the next few years.

Only five other teams in the Premier League have conceded more goals than Chelsea this season, quite a contrast to their 2014-15 title-winning campaign when no other side let in fewer goals.

It is clear that the Blues back line needs revitalising, and while Silva would bring solidity in the short term, he is perhaps not the best option for Chelsea to pursue with longevity in mind.

Meanwhile, Radamel Falcao has reportedly hinted that he may be on his way out of Stamford Bridge after a miserable half-season with the Blues.

Recent reports have indicated that Chelsea want to send the Colombian loanee back to parent club Monaco after a barren spell in west London, per Sam Wallace in the Telegraph.

According to Harry Sherlock on, a recent Instagram post from the striker suggests he may be nearing the end of his time with the Blues:

"I focus in one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. Philippians 3:13," Falcao wrote.

The post comes amid Chelsea's recent links to Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato, with Bleacher Report's Dean Jones recently suggesting the Corinthians man is set for a move to London:

Blues manager Guus Hiddink needs added depth in attack, and even if Falcao is not on his way out of the club, a move for Pato may just be worth the gamble.
