Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick's difficult season didn't get any easier on Wednesday after he took to Twitter to reveal he'd narrowly missed his train.

When you rush to a platform to see the train pulling out the station and a few people sniggering 😡😡 It's ok only an hour till the next one 🙈

The former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur star has struggled to hold down a regular place in an underwhelming Old Trafford side of late, and his mood won't have been improved by the internet's predictable reaction to his misfortune:

@carras16 That's that famous Carrick pace right there...

— Steve Wright (@WrightyUtd_15) January 20, 2016

@carras16 need to work on your pace Michael ☺

@carras16 surprised with Van Gaals training this season you made it to the station at all. Just ping a ball on the break you will be fine

@carras16 Louis Van Gaal must have planned your trip to the station , lots of sideways turns yea?

@carras16 maybe 5 years ago you would have caught it 😂😂😂😂

@carras16 I heard Chelsea have a bus you could borrow

@carras16 You’ve never been the quickest to be fair fella :-)

Carrick clearly didn't appreciate the feedback:

Regarding my last tweet there's been far too many comments about my pace. Some very harsh I must say.

Welcome to the real world, Michael.
