This afternoon, the NHL lost a member of its family. A teammate, a friend, and more importantly—a human being.

We here at Bleacher Report are extremely saddened by the news of Luc Bourdon's passing at such a tragically young age.

In light of this, we'd like to invite anyone and everyone to post a thought or a prayer for Luc's family below in the comments section. From there, they will be printed off and forwarded to the Canucks organization, where they will undoubtedly pass on our support to his family in this truly troubling time.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who chooses to support the Bourdons.

  1. I met Luc at training camp in 2007. He was so nice and despite the rain, he stayed outside signing for fans for quite some time, making sure everyone got an autograph. It's always a tragedy when you hear about someone with such a bright future being taken from us all. Some of those people are like shooting stars, they appear briefly with a bright flash of light that dazzles us all and then they disappear too quickly for all of us to really understand why, but one thing is for sure, that brief moment in time is always amazing, and it never fails to leave a lasting impression on people. Luc you were our shooting star. My deepest sympathies go out to your family and friends at this difficult time.

  2. I always would tune into canucks games just to check and see if Luc was playing, he was an amazing player and fun to watch, you could always see that he played with heart everytime he stept on the ice.
he will be deeply missed by me and my friends. i never got the chance to meet him but loved the way he played the game. my prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

  3. I don't have much to add having never been a Canucks fan, so Luc was not someone on my radar. I played hockey for many years, and i ended up giving up the sport i loved in the end because my biggest supporter, my dad, died when i was 15. The entire rest of that year we remembered my father in prayers before games and this entire tragedy reminds me of that time. The awesome power of God, and of the power of the bind of being hockey fans is amazing. We must come together in support of the Canucks, the Bourdon family, and others during this time and remember how precious life truly is. Regardless of where our allegiance lies, as Ducks fans, Penguins fan, Wings fans, etc. Tonight we are all Canucks fans in remember not only a great young defenseman, but a great individual.

  4. It's a very sad day for all Canadians. Losing a young man in his prime is a tragedy. Sincere condolences to Luc's family.

  5. I didn't get to see much of him in a Canucks jersey, because of the timezone, but, I will never forget how proud Luc was to pull on a hockey jersey. He was a guy who never took for granted that he was doing what he loved for a living, and was living his dream.

A true canadian boy, who played with pride every night.

Luc, you will be truly missed, and my condolances go out to your family, and all of those whos lives you enriched throughout the years.

  6. The good always seem to die so young.

    RIP Luc Bourdon

  7. it must be really hard for his team-mates and former team-mates. it left me speechless, he used to come to Montreal the summer to work out and practice, his agent coming with him .

he will be remembered as a fun and happy guy he was,
    RIP Luc

  8. nice article

  9. I remember watching Luc when he played for the Moose. He was definitely their best defenseman by far and he always moved the puck and skated well. He's going to be missed on the blueline in Vancouver in the future.

    RIP Luc

  10. A young man, in his prime. His life gone in a senseless accident. I didn't know Luc, had never met him, but I shed tears for a young man on the very cusp of stardom, whose hopes and dreams will now never be realized.

Rest In Peace Luc - a star in the making, sorely missed.

  11. He really was a great guy and I'm sorry that he's gone. Good luck to his family and friends and the Canucks.

  12. My prayers go out Luc’s family and friends.
It is definitely a very sad day in Vancouver. Being a Canuck fan I was fortune enough to see Luc play and see him grow as a player. Though my favourite memory of him would definitely have to be seeing him wear a Canadian jersey with pride during the 2006 IIHF Jr. Tournament in Vancouver. The crowd chanted Looo when he touched the puck; there was great pride knowing that one day this very talented player would wear a Vancouver Canuck jersey. He will be greatly missed.

  13. I am still in quite a bit of disbelief and shock about this. I know that its cliche but it does put life into perspective. My best memory of him was definately watching him win gold for Canada in Vancouver. Knowing that he was going to be a Vancouver Canuck, and seeing how instrumental he was to that team. I am very deeply saddened by this tragedy. It is something that has been hard to get a grip with.
To Luc's family, remember the good times you had with him. Remember all the times you shared together and know that this is not goodbye. His spirit will be kept alive for many many years to come.

    RIP Luc Bourdon
    1987-2008

  14. Tears were shed in our household yesterday...we were big "Luc" fans and have followed his progress since he signed on as a Canuck. There are some hockey players who just really make an impact - they play with heart & determination and they also bring joy to those around them with their playful ways and sense of humor. Luc was shaping up to be one of those special few.

Personally, I really got to see that side of Luc on October 29, 2006 at the Superskills competition. Although I took several pictures that day, somehow it turned out that he was the subject in a third or so of them - because of his antics and the spirit he brought to the ice. I will treasure those pictures, knowing that I was one of the fortunate ones who got to see Luc in the NHL. It's devastating that not everyone will experience that.

My heartfelt sympathies to Luc's family....as a single Mom of a son the same age, I can't imagine the devastation that Luc's mother is feeling right now. Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for her and I will pray for her (as well as the rest of his family).

Luc was a very special individual who will be sadly missed. Although the ("LUUUUUUUUUC") chant has been silenced, we will never forget this special young man.

  15. Dear Luc,

I hope you are up in heaven looking down on us. You were a team mate of my brother who is the same age as you and I do not understand why you had to go. You will always be remembered and missed. This should not have happened. Please watch over your family and take care of them because they will always miss you. I wish you could come back. We will pray for you and your family and drink our drinks in your honor.
