Noticeably absent from the group is Kobe Bryant, who announced Saturday that he wouldn't be participating in this year's Olympics, noting, "I think it's the young guys' turn to go and play and perform," per Mike Trudell of Lakers.com.

The United States will be seeking another gold medal after capturing it at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

“It seems like I say this each time we have to narrow down a roster, but I am struck by the remarkable commitment the players in the USA Basketball National Team program continue to display and the enthusiasm they have for representing their country,” said USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo, per USAB.com.

“The depth of talent that exists in the national team program is extraordinary."

Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski added, "The roster of finalists features incredible talent, great balance, outstanding leadership, and I believe like we had with our previous teams, this team will have a special chemistry. Having a deep, very talented, and extremely versatile roster is of critical importance in our pursuit of the Olympic gold medal in Rio."

LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, each three-time medalists, are the most decorated Olympians, while Chris Paul is looking to earn his third Olympic medal. In total, nine players from the 2012 squad are among the 30 finalists for the 2016 Games.

The Golden State Warriors are the most represented NBA team, with five players (Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Harrison Barnes) in the running for the final roster.

The key for Krzyzewski and Co. will be building a roster that has a solid rapport and players fulfilling defined roles. While the temptation in the past has been to simply slap the biggest names and talent together on one roster, the 2012 team was successful because chemistry and balance were stressed.
