WWE: Where Are You, Intercontinental Title?

Jarrett KarnerCorrespondent IMay 29, 2008

Most people learn fairly early in life that all good things must come to an end. Few understand. I guess that must be why I fail to understand the WWE's thought to take the Intercontinental Championship from the limelight.

Other than the Heavyweight Championship, no other title has been held by more historically important competitors. The IC belt has been worn by such names as HHH, The Rock, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Ric Flair, Edge, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Razor Ramon, Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Ultimate Warrior and Pat Patterson. The list is longer, but I want people to continue reading my article. With a track record like the one I just presented, why would Vince McMahon not put more emphasis on this belt?

The last time the title was defended was on March 10, 2008. Almost 3 full months ago! Prior to that, Jeff Hardy held the title for nearly 6 months and rarely was seen defending it.

According to WWE.com, The Intercontinental Championship is "one of the most prestigious awards in the world of sports-entertainment." If they felt this way, why not give the title a little time to shine? Of all the fans I've asked, every one of them has felt the same way I did.

So, to Mr. McMahon, I plead with you to not lose faith in this title. Please allow the young fans of tomorrow the same entertainment that I have grown up watching: great Heavyweight Title matches and amazing Intercontinental bouts.
