Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Luc Bourdon has been tragically killed in a motorcycle accident.  He was 21 years old.

Bourdon was riding in Northern New Brunswick.

Although RCMP will not confirm the identity of the body, Bourdon's sister, Eve, confirmed the man involved was her brother.

The RCMP in Shippagan did say that Bourdon was involved in the accident around 12:30 PM atlantic time.  Bourdon apparently lost control of his motorcycle, and then hit a tractor-trailer.

Bourdon was one of Vancouver's promising young defenseman who played his junior hockey in the Quebec league.  He was also a member of Team Canada's World Junior squad, captaining the team in 2007.

He was chosen 10th overall in 2005.

The following is a statement released from the Vancouver Canucks:

“We are deeply saddened by today’s news and on behalf of the entire Vancouver Canucks organization, I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to Luc’s family,” said Canucks General Manager, Mike Gillis. “Luc was an extremely talented player with a bright future. He brought great passion to the game and was a valued team member on and off the ice. He will be greatly missed.”
