Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Luc Bourdon has been tragically killed in a motorcycle accident.  He was 21 years old.

Bourdon was riding in Northern New Brunswick.

Although RCMP will not confirm the identity of the body, Bourdon's sister, Eve, confirmed the man involved was her brother.

The RCMP in Shippagan did say that Bourdon was involved in the accident around 12:30 PM atlantic time.  Bourdon apparently lost control of his motorcycle, and then hit a tractor-trailer.

Bourdon was one of Vancouver's promising young defenseman who played his junior hockey in the Quebec league.  He was also a member of Team Canada's World Junior squad, captaining the team in 2007.

He was chosen 10th overall in 2005.

The following is a statement released from the Vancouver Canucks:

“We are deeply saddened by today’s news and on behalf of the entire Vancouver Canucks organization, I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to Luc’s family,” said Canucks General Manager, Mike Gillis. “Luc was an extremely talented player with a bright future. He brought great passion to the game and was a valued team member on and off the ice. He will be greatly missed.”

  1. Sad news...

  2. that is just horrible. he was really young. his sister had to confirm the new to the medias ...
that reminds me of what happened to Dan Snyder ...

  3. R.I.P. Luc...Prayers go out to the Bourdon family

  4. Man, too bad. Motorcycle vs. Tractor Trailer = bad news. This is one of the reasons why motorcycle riding is forbidden in many contracts these days. I, myself, can't believe I lived through my motorcycle days when I was in my early twenties. Thought I was invincible and drove like it. Clearly, none of us are. Rest in peace Bourdon. You left too soon.

  5. I'm from New-Brunswick, and I lived just a few minutes away from where he grew up. Can't put in to words how sad I am.

    R.I.P Luc :(

  6. R.I.P. Luc

  8. terrible news... wonder if the 'Nucks will retire his number like the Pens did with their young player, Michel Briere, who was killed in a car accident, i think he was 21 years old.

  12. R.I.P Luc

My condolences to all his loved ones, past/current teammates, and everyone else that was touched by him.

Some things are just more important than the game.

  13. It's a shame to have the world robbed of not only a great hockey player, but a great person as well. You're in a better place now.
