MilesThe Monster In Dover, Delaware

The Chase to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship is headed to the northeast once again this weekend.  Mark Martin has piloted his number 5 car to the top of the charts for the second week in a row where he sits 35 points ahead of teammate Jimmie Johnson in a battle for the 2009 Championship.  Dover is one of Martins better tracks but Johnson won this race back in the spring. Each driver having earned 4 wins at Dover, the points battle might come down to who out performed at Dover. Look for high sparks to fly this weekend at Dover but keep your eyes fixed upon the 5 and 48 cars as those are your two cars to beat for the victory Sunday and the Championship when NASCAR heads to Miami.

Dover is a one mile concrete oval that is known as "The Monster Mile".  This tough mile is notorious in spinning cars out of the turns and spinning tempers after the race. This is a race track that in some ways acts as a mini plate race as "the big one" usually occurs on a restart here taking out several top runners.

Which Chase Contender plays a game of chicken with "Miles the Monster" this week? Stats say that Denny Hamlin will as he has guided his number 11 Toyota to 25.6 average finish and has finished 36th or worse in his last 4 starts here.

My pick for the Dover winner will be Mark Martin with Jimmie Johnson fighting losing 2nd. Biggest Chase Losers will be Denny Hamlin and Juan Montoya.  Expect to see the Rousch cars pick it up this weekend as it seems if they struggle a year they can work past that and always find a competitive edge at Dover.

The green flag drops at 2:15pm on your local ABC channel.

After Dover the chase heads to Kansas.
