This article takes a look at guys that specialize in a single stat and can provide your team with a boost in that category. Most of these guys are only viable contributors in one category and can be had late in drafts, often in the last round. People overlook the value of players like these who can keep you competitive in a certain category without having to make a trade for a more esteemed player.
Ronny Turiaf—168 blocks
Like many of the players in this slideshow, Turiaf doesn't see a lot of time and he has trouble staying on the court because he is foul prone, but when he is on the court, he is a blocking machine. He was third in the league in blocks last year, playing only 21 minutes a game. He can usually be had in one of the last two rounds in most standard 12 team leagues.
Birdman—175 blocks
Like Turiaf, Birdman only plays about 20 minutes a game, and like Turiaf, he blocks shots like no other. In terms of cumulative stats, Birdman actually ranked 69th last year in nine category Yahoo leagues.
Mario Chalmers—160 steals
As a rookie last year, Chalmers averaged almost two steals a game. He doesn't go as late in drafts as some of these other specialists since he offers a lot of help in other categories. His average draft position in mock drafts has been 103rd, so you should target him late 8th round.
Daequan Cook—153 threes
Cook is another one trick pony. He can often be had off the free agent list, and indeed is not even being drafted in most mocks. But if you need a boost in threes and don't want to make a trade to do it, he's your man.
Kevin Love—734 rebounds
As a rookie last year, Love was one of the top rebounders in the game, averaging 9.1 per game. Many expect big things from him this year so you have to draft him a little earlier than most in this slide show. He is averaging to be picked 87th in mocks so far.
Roger Mason—166 threes
Roger Mason saw big minutes last year with Ginobili injured and may have a reduction in playing time this year; but then again, Ginobili always seems to go down, so maybe not. Mason can be had in the last round of most drafts this year due to the anticipation of Ginobili's return.
