Glasgow Rangers provided the result of the night in Champions League Group E, stunning six-time French champions Lyon 3-0 on their own ground.

Goals from McCulloch (23), Cousin (48), and Beasley (53) left Rangers in a strong position to qualify, with  six points already in the bag.

The other two British clubs involved tonight both ground out 1-0 wins.

In Group F, Manchester United toiled against Roma, whom they hammered 7-1 last season. It took a super finish from Wayne Rooney to earn United their sixth 1-0 win of the season.

The home victory leaves Manchester United atop Group F with the maximum six points.

2006 and 2007 UEFA Cup winners Sevilla registered their first Champions League win—outside of qualifiers—since 1957, with an entertaining 4-2 victory at home over Slavia Prague.

Barcelona, one of the favourites in the competition, came through with a 2-0 win away at Stuttgart, and sit top of Group E with six points.

Group G's Inter Milan, another of the favourites, bounced back from their opening defeat against Fenerbahce to beat visiting PSV Eindhoven 2-0.

Other results saw CSKA Moscow draw 2-2 at home against Fenerbahce in Group G, while Dynamo Kiev lost 2-1 at home to Sporting in Group F.
