As I had said in my previous article, Michael Caruso and Michael Frolik were the two major prospects that the Florida Panthers needed to get signed prior to the June 1st NHL Draft deadline. This deadline applied for all prospects who were drafted in 2006 NHL Draft.
Frolik signed his entry-level contract earlier this afternoon, which will put added pressure on the veteran forwards on the Panther roster. Many scouts predicted Frolik to be the first overall pick in 2006 but he had a rough year and dropped to 10th. Frolik is considered the "baby Jagr" and predicted to be a star at the NHL level.
With two greats years in the QMJHL’s Rimouski, expect this youngster to make some major contributions to the Panthers very shortly.
If Frolik is to make the team straight out of camp, expect winger Ville Peltonen or center Josef Stumpel to get the boot from Florida. More than likely it will be Stumpel because of his heavier contract and another notion is that Shawn Matthias will probably be suiting up for the Panthers next year. Matthias is the prototype center.
He is big and strong with tremendous size and play-making ability to go along with an unbelievable hockey sense.
The future of the Florida Panthers is looking bright under Jacque Martin as GM.
