With the impressive Freshman year of Kareem Jackson, Alabama has been looking for playmakers to fill in for Simeon Castille on the other side of the ball.

The news came in today that most Alabama fans needed to hear.  That news was that Alonzo Lawerence is being cleared academically.  He could possibly enroll as early as June 1st.

Alonzo Lawrence - Ht: 6-foot-1 Wt:187 lbs Number Two cornerback Rivals.com

A secondary needing to add pure cover corners to handle the physical and speedy wide receivers of the SEC, Lawrence brings both to the table.  After skyrocketing in recruiting over the past year Lawerence made his break out party against Julio Jones (his new teammate) in the Alabama—Mississippi All Star game.  He was able to play with Jones throughout the game as well as bring in an interception.

Chris Rogers, Javier Arenas and Marquis Johnson will be trying to hold down a spot in the rotation but don't be surprised to see Lawerence seeing time early in the nickel and dime formations.

Alabama also adds freshman Robbie Green to the cornerback position.  Green is an underrated player especially in the shadow of Alonzo Lawerence.  Green is comparable to Simeon Castille.  A pure athlete who is always in the right place at the right time.  He will also be pushing for time in the rotation.

  1. While AL did have a good game against Julio, it was his coverage of Deandre Brown during that week of practice that really caught the eye of the recruiting analyst and in turn boosted his ranking.

    1. Yeah Deandre Brown is such a good WR. That prepared Alonzo to play against Julio. Southern Miss really pulled that one out to get Brown. He will be tough to cover in CUSA. A few of my old coaches were on the AL team staff and they said that Lawerence looked like one of the best corners they have ever seen in High School. Hopefully he will bring a spark ASAP to our secondary.

  2. I think the DBs are going to be just fine once everyone gets a few games under their belt. Who knows, Bama may have another Kareem Jackson on their hands. If that's the case you can mark Bama down as having some of the best pure talent DBs in the league for at least the next couple of years.

    1. Absolutely! Kareem is only a Soph. which is huge. When was the last time AL brought in Two top CB's nationally? Who knows Burton Scott could end up on the defensive side of the ball if WR isn't a perfect fit and that would add another top tier athlete. This is what Saban does, he brings in freakish Talent. Nobody argues that for sure.
