Why Do Championship-Calibre Teams Play "CupCake" Teams ???

Aside from the necessity to play a local rival, why are college teams allowed to schedule "CupCake" programs into their schedule ???

I, for one, believe that a team which includes such programs in their schedule, should NOT be allowed to contend for ANY championship ... and that includes the convoluted BCS !!!

Just one ardent sports fan's opinion ...
