NFL Week 2: My Three Wishes

CHARLOTTE, NC - SEPTEMBER 13: Quarterback Donovan McNabb #5 of the Philadelphia Eagles lays on the ground after injuring his knee in the second half of their NFL season opener against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on September 13, 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Now that the season has well and truly started, it is time to return to my weekly three wishes:

1. That the Gods of Journalistic Hubris take a week off

After a summer spent speculating about what would happen when Michael Vick became eligible to play, praising Brian Urlacher's return to form and emphasizing how important Jerod Mayo was going to be this season, it should have been obvious that something was going to happen to at least one of them. For the second season running we had seen an entire medical center's worth of high profile casualties, and yet the owners seem dead set on extending the season. Someone, somewhere needs to do some math.

2. That Cutler and Delhomme rediscover their sense of direction

Cutler froze on his Bears debut. Delhomme did it in front of his home fans for the second game in a row. Both are good players whose entire career is being held back by a tendency to make stupid mistakes. Cutler probably has all season to prove himself, but Delhomme doesn't. Time to step up, guys.

3. That someone hits that damn video screen

Please? Just once?
