There have been an abundance of great athletes who have beared the honor of "All-American". But maybe the one who stood out the most was a young man by the name of Jacob Hager. Growing up in Perry, Oklahoma Jacob was a very shy and reserved kid. He was often picked on in school because of the size of his teeth, and for his fondness for cooking. While in High School, he was a highly touted two-sport athlete. Besides wrestling, he was also a very talented football player. As the starting defensive tackle for Perry High School, he was th 2000 Double A District MVP in his senior year.
He was then recruited to the University of Oklahoma as a wrestler and DT. In his freshman year at OSU, he played second string behing current Chicago Bears player Tommie Harris. During his sophmore year, he was asked to join the wrestling team full-time due to his wrestling background. The following year, he met fellow Sooner alumni Jim Ross, who was at the time the Head of Talent Relations. After Ross started noticing the talent in this young man, he told him to get back in touch with him after his college days were over. But his pro wrestling career didn't pick up right off the back.
In 2006, the newly crowned all-american set te single season record for most pins and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance. Later that year, he had a tryout for WWE in Deep South Wrestling. After competing there for the rest of 2006, he then was moved to Ohio Valley Wrestling in early 2007. One of his most notable fueds there was with K.C. James. In August 2007, Hager was moved once again to Florida Championship Wrestling where he began a fued with Tyson Kidd( TJ Wilson at the time).
He got his first taste of the main event when on February 15, 2008, he and Ted Dibiase were the final 2 remaining in a battle royal to determine the first ever FCW Florida Heavyweight Champion. Hager then defeated Dibiase to become champion. On March 22, 2008, he defeate FCW Southern Heavyweight Champion Heath Miller to become the FCW undisputed champion. He made his official WWE debut in a dark match on Raw in a loss to William Regal.
On the September 9, 2008 episode of ECW, Hager debuted with a new gimmick and name, Jack Swagger. He then went on to have his first WWE fued with Tommy Dreamer and it culminated with him defeating Dreamer at Extreme Rules. Still without a loss, he went on to challenge Matt Hardy and defeat him for the ECW Championship on the January 19, 2009 edition of ECW. After his undefeated streak and fued with Hardy was over, a new challenger surfaced in the form of the returning Christian. Hager went on to drop the title at Backlash. After losing title, he attempted to regain it at that this year's extreme rules ppv. Again, he would be unsuccesful. At the following PPV, The Bash, he failed to recapture the title once again. On June 29, 2009, he was sent to Raw in a tri-brand trade and made his debut in a 3 on 1 gauntlet match against then WWE Champion Randy Orton. Hager then went on to defeat MVP for his first win on RAW. They would proceed to have a mini-fued that really never had a true ending. He is currently a top contender for the U.S. Title, but only time will tell what the future holds for The All-American American Jack Swagger
