WWE Raw Rewind: Mile High Miracle Or Million Dollar Appreciation?

Ron JohnsonMay 26, 2008

Nothing made me feel better than seeing RAW live in Denver tonight. Well, at least I thought that, until I heard the shocker at the end of the night. But there is business to be handled before the fun begins.

Before the show, the WWE dedicated tonight's broadcast in Colorado to the fighting men and women of the Armed Forces.

The show opens with Vince McMahon in his office trying to figure out how to show his appreciation to the loyal WWE Fans. So with that said, he says that he guarantees history to be made in Denver tonight.

Pro-Wrestling NOAH - GREAT MUTA FINAL "BYE-BYE"

BS Meter on Latest Wrestling Rumors 🌡️

Following McMahon's announcement, Todd Grisham is preparing for a Face-to-Face encounter between Triple H and Randy Orton. After some harsh words from the pair and a trip down memory lane, Orton says that "I will be the Last Man Standing and the Age of Orton will continue." But The Game proclaims that "After One Night Stand, The Age of Orton won't just be dead, it'll be like it never existed."

Back from break, competition begins with a blockbuster announcement. A new match is added for One Night Stand: For the first time ever, Melina and Beth Phoenix will battle in a Divas "I Quit" Match. Phoenix joins JR and King at ringside for commentary for the opening contest.

First Bout: Melina defeats Jillian

Jillian opens the bout with a "nails on the chalkboard" serenade to McMahon's "No Chance In Hell" theme. Melina comes out to stop the verbal assault.

Upon the bell, Jillian goes on the attack with a spear and a series of punches to the Hollywood Diva. As Hall continues the punishment in the corner, Phoenix shows pleasure in watching the former Women's Champion getting pummeled. But Melina fights back with a series of kicks before going in for the kill.

As Melina attempts a pinfall, Jillian rolls over to attempt her own pinfall, but Melina counters with a Mexican Stretch Buster for the submission and the victory.

In the back, Chris Jericho is adding his two cents worth to McMahon's idea for the evening, but he wastes no time in requesting a rematch with Shawn Michaels, which the Chairman happily gives him.

Also making an appearance in the Chairman's office is Cryme Tyme, who pops in to "acquire" some of William Regal's personal effects, guaranteeing an auction to take place in the Pepsi Center.

During the commercial break, Cryme Tyme lives up to his end of the bargain by holding an impromptu Brit Swap. Upon hearing of the auction, Ron Simmons comes out, prompting a crowd unified, "DAMN!"

Second Bout: Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes defeat Paul London & Brian Kendrick to retain the World Tag Team Championships

Cody Rhodes and Paul London start the match, but it's the young upstarts that hold the advantage quickly with some high flying maneuvers. After some great double-teaming, Kendrick comes in with a flying dropkick. Holly and Cody come in back and forth, but the challengers keep coming back harder.

After London is sent over the top rope by Rhodes, Kendrick sends Rhodes over the top and flips back into the ring, only to meet up with an Alabama Slam from Hardcore Holly for the victory. The Champs retain the Tag Team Gold, but their celebration gets interrupted by The Million Dollar Man.

Ted DiBiase comes out to introduce the newest member of the RAW Roster: His son, Ted DiBiase. The son makes his intentions well known: "This time next week, I guarantee that I will be one-half of the World Tag Team Champions!"

As RAW returns from break, it is also announced that next Friday night on SmackDown!, Santino Marella will face Jimmy Kimmel's Cousin Sal. Afterwards, footage is shown of Sal's training in Hollywood with Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jimmy Kimmel.

Back in Denver, Vince is talking with Mickie James about her idea for the ending to tonight, until JBL comes in and talks smack to the Women's Champion about her relationship with John Cena.

As the second hour begins, we see some salutes from some real heroes: the soldiers of Iraq. Upon the final entrant of this piece, Jeff Hardy and John Cena make their arrival into the Pepsi Center.

Third Bout: JBL & Umaga defeat Jeff Hardy & John Cena

The bell rings, and just like that, Layfield tags in Umaga to fight off Cena. The match begins with a slugfest between the two former rivals, but just as Cena goes for the FU, his legs give way and Umaga takes advantage. As the Doc tries to mount a comeback, the Bulldozer delivers the Samoan Swing.

Back from break, both men are down in the middle of the ring, but Cena manages to tag in Hardy. Hardy has the momentum until JBL interferes enough to have Umaga knock him off the ring apron to the floor. Layfield comes in to try to pick the bones of the Rainbow Haired Warrior with a vicious assault and an unorthodox submission followed by more severe forearm shots.

But just as Layfield has the momentum, Hardy hits the Whisper in the Wind that keeps his opponent down long enough for him tag in Cena. Cena comes in firing on all cylinders and hits the Red Sox Bomb and 5-Knuckle Shuffle, but as he prepares for the FU, Umaga comes in to drop him before he can finish.

He sends Cena to the outside, but not before Hardy blindtags himself back into the match. As he attempts the Swanton Bomb, JBL avoids the aerial assault, nails the Clothesline From Hell for the victory.

In the back, Shawn Michaels is questioning McMahon's motives about his big announcement.

Back in Denver, Kennedy arrives to a raucous crowd and boasts about his victory over William Regal last week.

Fourth Bout: Kennedy defeats Carlito

Carlito wastes no time attempting to take the offensive with a swinging neckbreaker and a series of stomps in the turnbuckle. But Kennedy shows why he has been on a roll ever since returning to RAW.

Kennedy recovers with a Green Bay Packer Plunge. As he goes for the Boot, Carlito recovers with a scoop slam for a near fall. As Carlito goes for the Backstabber, Kennedy runs him into the corner to stop the hold. As Carlito charges the Wisconsin native, he nails him with the Mic Check for the win.

But before Kennedy can celebrate completely, Katie Lea and her brother, Paul Burchill, come out to attack him for his victory over the former GM.

Back from break, Trevor Murdoch is doing a country serenade of McMahon's theme song, but instead of earning the approval of the Boss, the Chairman tells him to tell the Superstars to meet at the ring after the next match.

Also, JR and The King give a preview and recap of the Last Man Standing WWE Championship Match @ One Night Stand.

Back from break, more soldier salutes from Iraq are broadcasted prior to Y2J's arrival into the Pepsi Center.

Main Event: Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho fight to a double-countout

The match begins with some terrific mat mechanics from both superstars. As the two battle back and forth, the match takes a turn when Jericho misses an outside missile dropkick and lands on the outside.

Back from break, Jericho has a headlock applied on Michaels after a turnbuckle dropkick. HBK tries to fight out, but gets caught with an enzugiri. Just as Jericho goes for the bulldog, Michaels fights back with a flying forearm. Jericho goes for the Walls, but Jericho is caught in a small package.

Jericho hits a clothesline, but misses the Lionsault. Michaels rolls to the outside, goes for the Flying Elbow, but misses. As Shawn is using the corner to get himself up, Jericho runs towards the corner to hit the Code Breaker, but HBK misses and goes for Sweet Chin Music.

Jericho ducks, and locks in the Walls of Jericho, but Shawn reaches the ropes. Both men fight to the outside, and Y2J hits the Walls again on the outside. Both men get counted out, but Jericho locks the Walls in again. Just as it seemed he was about to snap, he comes to his senses, drops the chair, and walks to the back.

As the show goes to its final break, Vince McMahon starts to make his way to arena.

Back from break, all of the RAW Roster has gathered on the entrance way in preparation for their Chairman's huge announcement.

McMahon walks out and makes two huge announcements. The first one was that in four weeks, the 2008 WWE Draft will take place. The second is his gift to the fans, and it was one for the ages: Starting next week, every Monday night, Vince McMahon will give away $1 Million!

That's the RAW Rewind! And in the words of Cryme Tyme, in the future, it will all be about that Money Money! Yeah! Yeah! That Money Money! Yeah Yeah!
