What a weekend! What a game! overrun with passion
As a Arsenal fan it hurts me to say that Adebayor had a magnificent game, probably the best individual performance by any player this season. His commitment skill touch and drive was second to none.
However Adebayor will not be remembered for this in this game. Two incidents overshadowed this performance.
First lets tackle the celebration, this was not clever on his part but considering the stick he was getting in the game, you have to rate the fact he had the bottle to give some back.
He did not swear gesture inappropriately to the fans. It would be wrong to ban him for this, a firm word will do.
so all in all we need to just accept the fact he played well and was probably the difference between the two sides.
Did Wenger make a mistake in selling him? definitely not! Adebayor would never have performed like that for arsenal, and these performances for city will not last, he will soon return to his comfort zone.
What was totally unacceptable was the stamp, this was clearly deliberate. I have never seen a player attack a fellow players face like that in a game.
Adebayor needs to be banned heavily for this, something in the region of a six game ban, there is no room for this behaviour in football, as for the celebration fellow fans we need to just take it on the chin.
