Midway through the fourth quarter, Michigan was trailing Notre Dame 34-31 and Michigan was moving the ball, threatening to score again, when Tate Forcier threw a pass a little to high for Greg Mathews and was intercepted. Right then, all hopes of Michigan pulling off the upset were shattered! At least that's what every one thought.
With two minutes to go, Notre Dame had made a stupid decision to pass on second and third down, and both were incomplete. The Irish were forced to give up the ball and, with 1:50 left on the clock and only two timeouts remaining, Tate Forcier led Michigan on the drive of his life. He went 6/7 for 56 yds, passed to Greg Mathews for the game-winning touchdown. Yes, Tate had done what is so difficult for many freshmen to do: he KEPT HIS COMPOSURE he didn't get nervous. HE NEVER DOES.
Now Michigan is ranked in the Top 25 and they're getting the kind of respect they deserve. Tate Forcier has been Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his spectacular performance. Now, Tate is one of the most talked bout freshmen in the nation. The thing I love about him is his ability to move the offense and create plays not only with his arm, but his feet. So, the question that everyone has been asking is, is Michigan back?
Its only been two games, but I truly believe that Michigan is back. They have averaged over 430 yards of offense and 34.5 ppg. I truly believe that Tate Forcier will be one of the best QBs in the nation by his senior year.
Heck, he's already special, but he will continue to get better each and every day and it's going to be fun to watch him grow and mature as a QB as each game goes by. Tate, welcome to Michigan. We're happy to have you.
