The Dutchman who is currently captain of Ajax at only the age 25, similar to Fernando Torres. Similar to the Spaniard last season, he is being linked with a big money move to the EPL.
The striker has led the Ajax line impressively in the past three years and has quickly turned potential into consistent displays and goals to match. Ever since his breakthrough at Heerenveen, he has been tipped for big things.
I was convinced of the boy's class when his former side came to St. James Park in the UEFA Cup of 2004-2005. His performance, although not enough to keep them in the competition, was class.
In that year he netted 20 goals in 38 games. His next and final year at Heerenveen brought 21 goals in 22 games, and after Ajax promptly signed him during the January window, he went on to score 24 goals from January onwards!
His scoring exploits saw him linked to Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal. But Huntelaar remained in Holland and hit 36 goals in his second season in Amsterdam.
That's all every tabloid and broadsheet in England needed to link him with the EPL's big guns Man Utd were said to be lining up a bid for him before going for Tevez.
Another season at the Amsterdam Arena wouldn't have bothered Huntelaar, who could stay in Van Basten's sight ahead of Euro 2008. Huntelaar's 33 league goals secured his place on the plane to Austria/Switzerland.
And he would have added the golden boot to his collection if Holland's goals counted for more than 1.5. Ronaldo's 31 EPL goals were deemed better than Huntelaar's 33 Eredivisie strikes.
Huntelaar's time to move on seems sooner rather than later and with Ajax failing to qualify for the Champions League, they lost their holding power. Chelsea and Man Utd could offer him a chance to play at the highest level.
Like Torres before him, it seems inevitable Huntelaar will be in the EPL someday. Hopefully sooner, as all he has to do is choose a club. Become part of Man Utd's domination and play with Rooney and Tevez, or replace Drogba and become the main man at Chelsea.
All I can hope is Real Madrid don't get him, he would lose confidence from not playing and all of a sudden there is another career destroyed in Madrid.
So lets hope he makes the wise choice and comes and displays the awesome talent he clearly possesses in the EPL.
Personally I don't mind if it's with United or Hull! I just want to see Huntelaar in the EPL.
