Chicago Bulls rookie center Joakim Noah, was charged with possession of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol on Sunday morning.

Noah was first spotted by an officer at 1:50 a.m. holding and open container of alcohol, which is a violation of city law. This led to him being searched at a police station, which resulted him being arrested for possession of marijuana.

John Paxson, general manager of the Bulls, said he "expressed to Joakim his disappointment in his actions this weekend" and went on to say, "Until we gather further information on this situation, we won't be making any further comment."

After signing a notice agreeing to appear before a judge, Noah was released.

He could face up to six months in jail and a $500 fine for this offense.

In only his first year in the NBA, is this a sign of things to come from the young rookie?

Is he going to be one of those players that can do so much good on the court, yet so many bad things off the court?

I hope for the Bulls franchise, its fans, and Noah himself, that this is a one-time thing that he learns from.

Hopefully, he learns that he is in the public eye and that everything he does is seen by others. People are caught with marijuana every day, but not all people are NBA stars.

  1. Yes, because the NBA is clearly weed-free without Noah.

Josh Howard confesses to partaking in marijuana the entire off-season, and he's lauded as some sort of grand representative of free speech. Joakim gets caught with weed and he's some out-of-control kid all of a sudden.

    1. Yes, but getting caught by an officer in a public place is a lot different to how we found out about josh smith.

    2. I agree Jason, this situation is different from the josh howard situation. Joakim Noah shouldnt have been out in public with marijuana in the first place. If hes guna use it he could atleast do it out of the public eye.

  2. THis was fine police work.

'Hey Merle, do you think that tall kid with the dreads might be holding."

"Yeah, Joe, and lookie, he's violatin' our open container municipal violation."

    "Heck yeah, that's a viol'ation."

"We could just riot hym a tichet, Joe."

"Nahh, Merle, this one's goin' wid us to the station howwse."

    "I'll call for backup, Joe."

"No need, merle. Let's jis git 'er dun."

    "dun."

  3. oh yip.

  4. This is interesting. His father, Yannick Noah also caught a lot of notoriety in the beginning of his career for similar type of problems.

  5. all yall get off the thes mens back like yll never smoke weed in public or not in public people mistake that just the way of life go now if u ask me yeah jokim was wrong but yall did the same shit when yall was young and dumd to right.

    1. ummmmm, yea.

  6. The only reason stories like this are notable is because FoxSports and ESPN feel the need to give them headlines over relevant things.

Hopefully with Josh Howard and now Noah, NBA players getting caught with weed will become commonplace enough that it won't get any headlines, because nobody really cares about it.

    1. Well people are obviously interested. Look at the article views and how many comments there are.
