Atlanta Rising: These Braves Are Still on the Hunt
It is May 25, and the Braves are currently one game behind in the NL east.
Hardly a favorite at the beginning of the year, the Braves have rocketed from fourth to second place within a week. And what can I say? As a die-hard Braves fan its great to watch.
Night in and night out, Chipper Jones competes with the best of them. No one will ever know what has turned this 30 year old into the league's best hitter, but I think it has something to do with the fact hes seen almost every pitcher in the league.
Although Chipper and the other Braves have done fabulous we have had to go on this streak without ace John Smoltz and two of our best closers. I have to give credit to our amazing GM, Frank Wren. How does this guy do it? Year in and year out we always have great players to fill voids and play on a consistent level no matter the size of their pay check.
Players like Blanco, Infante, Gotay and Campillo come in and play almost as good as the starters in front of them. Wren is a great GM for getting all our players, but where would we be without the league's best manager in Bobby Cox? Our success fuels from the discipline that Bobby places within our players. Not once will you ever hear about an in-house fight like your do up in NY.
He also knows how to get our players motivated and knows who to play where and when. He is truly amazing and I'm glad we have him for at least another year. The best part of all this is, we should have Smoltz and Soriano back in the bullpen very soon, and then you better all watch out.
GO BRAVES!
