Mark Coleman was slated to fight Brock Lesnar. Coleman sustained a torn MCL in training and pulled himself from the fight due to the injury. That is where St. Pierre vs. Fitch come in to play. The UFC needed to act quickly to make a main event, and boy, did they do so.
Georges "Rush" St. Pierre is the No. 1-ranked welterweight in the world, and Jon Fitch is No. 2 on most ranking lists. The fight against Fitch will St. Pierre's first title defense since regaining the belt. Fitch is coming off a decision victory against Team Quest fighter Chris Wilson back at UFC 82.
Kenny "KenFlo" Florian steps in to take on Roger "El Matador" Huerta. It was has already been deemed a No. 1 contender's match for the Lightweight Championship.
Heath Herring steps in for Mark Coleman to face Brock Lesnar in a Heavyweight showdown. Herring should pose a bigger threat to Lesnar than Coleman would have. So Lesnar hasn't been granted any slack in his opponents since being signed to such a big deal and being a virtual rookie in the sport.
Cheick Kongo is back after dropping a decision victory to the above mentioned at UFC 82. Evensen will be making is UFC debut and is faced with quite the task in his first-ever fight in the Octagon.
