The 2009 Season is one week underway and its going to be one hell of a ride!
From the Nittany Lions of the Big Ten to the BYU Cougars of the WAC every team begins the season as a contender, and is trying to prove itself worthy for BCS Contention.
In my first Bowl Projections of the Season I will project are
The BCS National Title Game (To Be Played in Pasadena this year)
The Fiesta Bowl
The Rose Bowl
The Sugar Bowl
The Orange Bowl
The Capital One Bowl
The Cotton Bowl
The Outback Bowl
The Capital One Bowl (Big Ten #2 vs. SEC # 2)
I have Michigan State versus Alabama in The Capital One Bowl but this could easily change depending on how the Quarterback Situation ends up at MSU.
I also have Bama in this game as they looked impressive against Virginia Tech but i'm still not completely convinced that they have quite what it takes to make it to a BCS game this year.
The Cotton Bowl (Big 12 #2 vs. SEC)
In the Cotton Bowl I currently have
LSU vs. Oklahoma
I can't tell if LSU looked good in their struggle against Washington in week one as Washington has proved nothing except that they could hang with LSU so far this season.
Oklahoma has lost two key players in Bradford and Gresham. They lost a sloppy game against BYU and will rely on their defense as Bradford could be out from 2 - 4 weeks. I see The Sooners losing a few more games and watching their season turn into a disappointment.
The Outback Bowl (Big Ten #3 vs. SEC)
The Outback Bowl is always a closely fought game and this year I have
Northwestern vs. Georgia
I previously had Iowa in Northwestern's position but after a lackluster performance in week one Iowa has to impress with a tough schedule to regain that spot. Northwestern looked good in a win against lowly Townson.
Georgia fell out of the Capital One bowl after struggling on the road in Stillwater. Georgia's defense looked good but the offense struggled after an almost perfect first drive. I look to Georgia's defense to keep them in most of their games this season but they can't rely on it to keep them in the game against some of their superior opponents.
The Orange Bowl (Big East vs. ACC)
The Orange Bowl should be a good one this year as I have
Miami versus. Cincinnati
Miami took Virginia Tech's spot as they looked quite impressive in a instant classic over the instate rival Seminoles. However Miami has to navigate a intense schedule and this spot is interchangeable as the season goes on in a lowly but even ACC.
Cincinnati is my pick from the Big East as they destroyed previous favorite Rutgers 47-15. The Big East is easily one of the weakest Conferences and Cincinnati is their only ranked team at the moment. This spot can also change easily as the season goes on as USF is looking for a BCS Bid as well.
The Sugar Bowl (SEC vs. BCS At Large)
The Sugar Bowl could be another Non BCS Conference team battling it out with the SEC as I have
BYU versus Ole Miss
BYU goes undefeated but is held out of the championship due to Florida and Texas going undefeated. Brigham Young looked impressive against Oklahoma and the Cougars rocketed up to #9 in the Nation. Max Hall is a force and some of the weight will be lifted off his shoulders when Unga returns after being held out against Oklahoma due to an injured hamstring.
I have Ole Miss losing to Florida in the SEC Title Game after an impressive season. Ole Miss moved up to #6 In the Nation after dispatching of Memphis.
Snead looks to prove to the masses that Ole Miss is for real and will be tested against a stingy BYU team.
The Fiesta Bowl (Big 12 vs. At Large)
The Fiesta Bowl looks to be one of the best annual Bowl Games as
Two OSU's battle it Out. Oklahoma State versus Ohio State
Oklahoma State looked impressive in a win against SEC Powerhouse Georgia in week one. Zach Robinson and Dez Bryant are one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation and the defense isn't too shabby as well.
Oklahoma State should Beat Oklahoma but will most likely falter to the Longhorns on Halloween.
Ohio State had a close one against Navy and fell out of the Rose Bowl because of it. If they beat USC this weekend they will move back up to the Rose Bowl and potentially the Title Game but until they prove that they can win the big game they'll be stuck in the Fiesta Bowl or perhaps the Capital One Bowl. They're led by Phenom Terrelle Pryor and are a very young team however I think they can easily get to a BCS game and will have a huge test against The Nitanny Lions of Penn State.
The Rose Bowl (Big Ten vs. Pac 10)
The Rose Bowl should be a good one as the Pac 10 sends a new competitor.
Penn State versus Cal
Penn State returns for the second straight year with a stacked defense led by Sean Lee and Navario Bowman. Daryll Clark and Evan Royster will give them a chance to score against any team they play against. They looked impressive in a 31-7 win against Akron and I look forward to see them play against a formidable opponent. The Key to their season will be the game against Ohio State.
The Cal Bears looked extraordinary against Maryland in a 52-13 win.
Jahvid Best is clearly "the Best" running back in the nation and Cal's passing game looked impressive as well. I know this has been said about Cal many times before but I look for them to actually Beat USC this year and snap USC's Pac 10 Champions streak.
The BCS Title Game
The BCS Title game returns to Pasadena this year and should be a great one as I have
The Defending Champion Florida Gators versus The Texas Longhorns
The Gators are coming off a championship season and are led by Heisman Award Winner Tim Tebow. As much as I hate to say it Florida shouldn't have too hard of a time going undefeated, and should stay very focused. The defense returned all the starters and is led by Brandon Spikes.
Not much can be told by their huge win against Charleston State except that they looked dominate.
The Texas Longhorns look to return to Pasadena where they won the title in 05', and are Defending Fiesta Bowl Champions. But for some reason I dont think they are looking to defend that title as they have something bigger on their minds.
Texas is led by Heisman Canidate Colt McCoy and has a great offense and good defense. The Longhorn's schedule perhaps got a bit easier as Sam Bradford and his Sooners were defeated at the Hands of BYU but will still give Texas all they can handle in the Red River Rivalry. However Texas is out to show that they belonged in the Title Game last year and I have them going undefeated. They Also played a lowly team in Louisiana Monroe and they put up offensive fireworks.
