Denny Hamlin finished 6th after leading laps Sunday night at the Pep Boys 500 at Atlanta.  That is his 5th straight top ten in the last 5 races.

Why does this make him the hottest driver you ask?

Well let's look at he other 4 drivers in the top 5 in points.

Tony Stewart the favorite going into the chase to take home his 3rd championship in the last 5 races has a 10th,1st,17th,33rd and 11th.

Jeff Gordon in the last 5 races had a 8th,37th,2nd,23rd and 8th.

Jimmie Johnson in the last 5 races has a 13th, 12th, 33rd, 8th, and 36th.

And Carl Edwards 18th, 3rd, 4th, 16th, and 37th.

As for Denny Hamlin?  Well how about 1st, 10th, 10th, 5th (after spinning out and being a lap down) and 6th.

He is 4th in points and has clinched himself a spot for the 4th time in his cup career a spot in the chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

Denny Hamlin midway in his 4th season in the Sprint Cup series has 5 wins and has finished 3rd, 12th, and 8th.  But those numbers are not indicative on how well he has ran.

To be honest if not for the badluck he has he might have a championship or 2.

Could the Virgina native go all the way and bring home a championship?  If consistency means anything then yes.  Hamlin by far has been the most consistent driver for the last month and the 2nd most the last 2 months following Tony Stewart closely.

Do not ever overlook the number 11 team.  If you do they can surprise you with a championship.
