Let us analyze the match.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. But unfortunately they were off a ridiculous start. The lost their first five wickets for just 69 runs in 25.3 overs. After that Thilan Samaraweera and Angelo Mathews, hit a century and a fifty respectively, to guide Sri Lanka to a total of 216 runs, in 50 overs.

The Kiwi bowling was very impressive. Shane Bond, the bowler who made his comeback after two years grabbed 3/43 in his spell of 10 overs which included two maidens. Bowlers Daryl Tuffey, Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori also bowled tight spells. But debutant Nathan McCullum bowled a really tight and good spell. Though he didn't get an wickets but he bowled a tight spell to restrict the score from getting too high.

The Kiwis were off a shake start. Jesse Ryder fell earl and so did the top order. Their scoring rate was also very slow and the were 41/5 in 18.5 overs. Then Ross Taylor made a 76 ball 41 and tried to give some hope to the Kiwi supporters. But unfortunately he too fell and the Kiwi innings collapsed at 119.

The Lankan bowlers were more impressive and effective than the Kiwi bowlers. Lasith Malinga grabbed 4 wickets for just 28 runs in his spell of 6.1 overs. Sanath Jayasuriya and Nuwan Kulasekara also grabbed 2 wickets each. Mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis did not grab an wickets but bowled a tight spell. Even pacer Thilan Thushara grabbed a wicket but more importantly he bowled a really tight spell and made the Kiwi batsmen struggle.
