As the title depicts fans of the NHL (excluding Pittsburgh fans) should all be hoping that the Detroit Red Wings are victorious in their match-up against the Penguins. Especially if you are a fan living in Canada.
Seems like an odd statement does it not, but honestly would you ever watch a sports program again if Pittsburgh won the cup?
If Pittsburgh won the cup you can expect 24/7 coverage of how Sidney Crosby is the best player in the world today (which is not true).
As it stands today and has for a while, sports broadcasters have been talking incessantly about Sid the kid, and very little about the rest of the league. This is an especially big problem in Canada.
It has gotten on my nerves, and the nerves of a lot of other fans that I have spoken with. Many NHL fans are fed up with the coverage just as I am.
I may have even enjoyed watching Crosby play if it wasn't for this problem, but now I find myself cheering for whatever team Pittsburgh is playing at the time.
Do not get me wrong I think Crosby is one of the best players in the league, but he receives more media attention then he probably deserves. Players such as: Iginla, Phaneuf, Lidstrom, Ovechkin, Lecavalier (especially Lecavalier), barely get any air time, and they are arguably better players then Crosby.
From my standpoint at least, it does not seem fair.
If you are willing to watch non-stop coverage of Sid the kid you can cheer for the Pens, but if you can't, just hope that Detroit takes the series.
All I know is if Pittsburgh wins, I won't be watching another sports station in quite a while.

agreed. The Hype machine surrounding Crosby has hit overdrive and its nauseating. However, I believe when Crosby enters his prime (which is still a good 5 years away) he will be indisputably the best player in the NHL. This is what the media networks are banking on, and they want to force Crosby down our throats now so that he'll be an everyday household name everywhere by the time his talent level matches his hype.
That's my theory anyway. Not saying I'm enjoying it, haha.
anyway, we all know ESPN doesn't pay much attention to hockey in the first place. I think we'll all be safe tuning in there, even if Crosby does lift the cup *god forbid*

Couldn't agree more.
Here in Canada, the hype surrounding Crosby is unbearable, and it has everything to do with marketing and very little to do with hockey.
