Some things in life are disputable, and some are controversial. Sometimes we lose sight of things we actually know about college football. As you'll see, sometimes we lack the faith to come out and really say things we know are going to happen, and that is a mistake! The future is unpredictable, yes... but some things are not unforeseen.
Here is a list of a few things that are absolutely positively true and definite about the upcoming season of college football in 2009.
After being CRUSHED in the Poinsettia Bowl in 2008 by TCU, Boise State has shown that their defense is flat-out overrated. They don't stand a chance against REAL BCS schools, and even if they go undefeated they simply don't deserve a BCS berth because they're just a one-trick pony with a crapload of tricks.
Sam who? The Sooners don't need Sam Bradford for this game, he can rest up til October 17th for their first real game against a real BCS school when they play Texas. Their strong running game and amazing defense will propel the Oklahoma Sooners to a blowout victory over BYU, who for God knows what reason are ranked in the preseason. I guess people just wanted to pander to the Little Brother conferences like the Mountain West and WAC and make em feel real good now so the big boys can play real football later in the season.
A freshman quarterback? Graduating half their defensive starters? Losing both coordinators? Please, if USC had any more holes they'd be in Switzerland. USC will fall to Ohio State because their offense just can't handle a hot breath blowing Matt Barkley's passes out of the air, let alone an actual defense. Look for the Trojans to win a close game against San Whoever and then fall off the map.
Last year Washington was a Pac-10 worst 0-12. Their defense, offense, special teams, and even the hot dog vendors were so awful that they all are going to bow to LSU. LSU is obviously underrated, coming from the strongest conference ever to exist in college football, and are underranked, even at 11th. Virtually any team from the SEC is an auto-win against anyone who isn't in the SEC or Big 12, so look for LSU to dominate every aspect of this game.
THE Buckeyes of THE Ohio State University will win THE game against Navy. THE ranking of 6 does nothing to reflect THE strength of OSU and THE expertise of Jim Tressel. THE first game they'll have to worry about isn't until THE 7th of November. After THE Trojans lose THE game against Ohio State then THE Buckeyes will cruise til they meet THE Nittany Lions.
Sure, the only ranked team on either of their schedules that they aren't forced to play is Texas against 25th ranked Kansas... but for god's sake they're in the Big 12 and SEC respectively! It's not like USC, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Florida State, Utah, BYU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech ALL scheduled out-of-conference games against ranked opponents.
Plus, we all know that being in the SEC or Big 12 just proves their record that much more. When Florida goes 12-0 and maintains their #1 ranking, it won't be because the SEC is bloated with overpraise, it'll be because they fought it out against tough opponents like Troy and Florida International.
