Could it be that the FIFA player of the year and the world’s most expensive football, Cristiano Ronaldo, will miss out on the 2010 World Cup?

Saturday was yet another disappointment for CR9 as the Portuguese grease-ball was unable to lead his international side to victory in Denmark. Carlos Quieroz’s band of superstars are on the verge of missing the cut to book their place in South Africa next summer where Ronaldo’s absence would be sorely felt.

Against Denmark it was another day of frustration for Ronaldo. Before the match Portugal naturalised Brazilian striker Liedson, and with the Porto forward brought in to lead the line Ronaldo was in turn asked to be the link-man between the midfield and attack. Ronaldo struggled to fulfill his duties, the Real Madrid star never looking threatening either from open play or from the numerous free-kick opportunities which came and went.

With Portugal chasing the game after Nicklas Bendtner had scored for the hosts, Ronaldo began to lose composure after the break. This led to a series of wild and unsuccessful attempts on target from Ronaldo, whose facial expressions throughout the second period could not hide the frustration of yet another below-par performance from the former Manchester United man.
