Earlier this week, Ross Ohlendorf completed a terrific task as a Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher. Yes, a Pirates pitcher.

He fanned three hitters on just nine pitches. He became only the 40th pitcher to ever do that ever. Ever since the MLB has existed (which was around 1892?) and only 40 other pitchers have done it before. This is a rare feat. Not as rare as a perfect game, which was shown by Mark Buehrle earlier this year.

But I definately did not see this one coming from Ross Ohlendorf. Then again, who saw a no-hitter coming from Jonathan Sanchez?

Although opponents manager Tony La Russa and the Cardinals did Ohlendorf a huge favor by sitting Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina on the same day, Ohlendorf completed this task by setting down Khalil Greene, Julio Lugo, and Jason LaRue.

Making the feat even more memorable is that each strikeout ended with Ryan Doumit failing to come up with the ball and having to throw to first to record the out.

That is crazy.
