Brazilian born Liedson today rescued Portugal's sloppy 2010 World Cup bid.

A header three minutes from time by the Brazilian scraped up a 1-1 draw against European Group 1 leaders Denmark.

However the result may still not be enough to ensure that Cristiano Ronaldo's side make it to South Africa.

They have slumped to fourth place, seven points behind Denmark, three behind Hungary and two back from Ibrahimovic's Sweden who also struggle for classification.

All four have three matches left to play.

When these sides met in Lisbon last September, Portugal suffered a spectacular meltdown when they allowed the Danes to score twice in the last four minutes to secure a 3-2 away win.

Portugal, coached by former Manchester United assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz, fell behind two minutes before the first half interval and seemed doomed to yet another loss.

Nicklas Bendtner smartly chested the ball down just on the edge of the six-yard box and thumped a fierce drive in off the crossbar past Portuguese goalie Eduardo.

Portugal brought on Brazilian born Liedson, who only recently became a Portuguese citizen, at half-time.

The Portuguese continued to pile on the pressure. They brought on veteran striker Nuno Gomes with ten minutes left.

Another Brazilian born player, Deco, curled a free-kick just over the bar in the 83rd minute.

With just three minutes left, Liedson rose above the defence to head home a leveller for his new adopted home - Portugal.
