Is the Spurs age catching up with to them as the Western Conference Finals progress? Those were the newly crowned MVP's thoughts last night in the city priceless dramas.
As the fourth quarter progressed, the Spurs fell asleep to the beat of their own drum. Kobe rattled off 25 second-half points and hit the game winning shot, putting Game One in the bag.
Tim Duncan had a nice game himself, hitting 48% of his shots and finishing with 30 points, but it wasn't enough to get the Spurs a 1-0 series lead. The win was a little close for comfort, but each win in the Playoffs is another step closer to the ultimate goal.
Much props to the Spurs tenacious defense in the first half limiting Kobe to only two points. The second half seemed like a rerun of Pros versus Joe’s, what a joke.
As the teams aim for Game Two, are the Lakers going to spot the world champs another 20-point lead, or come out of the gates firing like the Alamo?
On a side note -- is it just me, or are Manu Ginobili and Bruce Bowen some of the most annoying offenders of the flop in the NBA? Seriously, with less than 30 seconds left in the game, and the league’s MVP with the ball, Bowen seemed more concerned with drawing the foul than with playing real defense, and ultimately allowing Kobe Bryant to easily hit an easy short-range shot from inside the key to seal the game. Bad acting only worked for Schwarzenegger in "Predator", better performances have come from third graders on the play ground without refs. Play the game folks, not the refs.

Bowen was running full speed and Kobe lowered his shoulder into him. I'd like to see Kobe try to shoulder any athlete and see if that athlete wouldn't fall down. Great job hopping on the "Spurs flop" bandwagon.

Bowen is getting older. He's a smart defensive player. And yes he was clearly trying to get the charge call on Kobe.
Their entire team including Duncan are floppers. Its like a team full of Vlade Divac.
Duncan fell on a play when he drove to the basket along the baseline, pulled up for a short jumper and Turiaf's hand touched him and he fell backwards on the floor.
As for the Spurs defense in the 1st half against Bryant. I dont think it was the defense as much as it was the fact that Bryant only took 3 shots. He could have gotten a shot off any time he wanted. I just think he really wanted to establish his young teammates and get them comfortable in the most important game of their lifetime.
