Phil Knight Controversy Is Ongoing
ESPN's "Outside The Lines" aired this piece recently and KEZI showed it in on the news last night. The Oregonian recently did a series on the subject as well.
Personally, I don't think anyone will deny that "Uncle Phil" has a lot of pull at the U of O athletic department. But let's get realistic, why shouldn't he? Where was Oregon Sports 15 years ago? Have they improved, have the facilities improved (and still growing)? If the answers to these questions were no, then I say we having something to complain about.
I think the positives outweigh any negatives. Nobody argues with all of the good things that have happened with the football program or Autzen stadium. Nobody complains too much about his donations that went to the Law Center or the main library on campus.
The only real concern I have, is the double standard regarding the hiring of Pat Kilkenny as athletic director. He admits it himself in this OTL video. I think he should complete his education ASAP. I have no idea of how many credits he needs but I think a lot of criticism would vanish if he did.
