Lakers 89, Spurs 85 Final
What a game last night. It looked like the Spurs had everything going their way. From a 20 point lead to Kobe Bryant being a shell of himself in the first half, the defending champion San Antonio Spurs had everything going their way. Yet, they awakened the sleeping giant.
The San Antonio Spurs awakened a hungrier than ever Kobe Bryant, who took absolutely no prisoners, scoring 25 points in about 18 minutes. The fourth quarter collapse of San Antonio was similar to that of the recently defeated Phoenix Suns, way back in Game 1 of the first round.
Now we are talking about the defending champion Spurs here. They can come back and win a game or two, but can they beat this Los Angeles team? I do not think so. Just like the Suns' morale was crushed after their Game 1 loss in the first round, the same ironically happened to the Spurs, courtesy of Kobe Bryant.
I do not watch American Idol nor do I care for it, but if there was an American Idol for the NBA, Kobe would be the poster-boy. It has felt like eternity for the man who vowed to prove he could win without Shaquille O'Neal four years ago. Kobe is a man on a mission. The Spurs had a chance to steal a road game.
Keyword: had. The Spurs may very well win two home games, but a young, energetic team with most importantly, an playoff experienced core in Gasol, Fisher, and Bryant may not allow the San Antonio to have the Hollywood ending of repeating as NBA champions.
