Scathed by the Bell: 10 More '90s TV Characters Who Should Enter the Octagon
It was announced a couple of days ago that the Green Ranger himself, he of three first names, Jason David Frank, will be entering the world of MMA.
The former Mighty Morphin Power Ranger may seem like a joke, but he's actually been studying martial arts since he was four and is a member of the World Karate Union Hall of Fame.
That being said, he turns 36 tomorrow and has little MMA training under any of his black belts. So it's very possible that his introduction to the octagon could go badly.
Still, I admit that it's got me curious to see what happens. In fact, I'm hoping he starts a trend. What if some other TV icons (and I use that word loosely) would like to try their hand at MMA?
Here are 10 More '90s TV Characters Who Should Enter the Octagon along with their strengths and weaknesses.
Shawn Hunter
Shawn from Boy Meets World was always the bad boy. He may have been small, but he made up for his size with plenty of attitude. If somebody messed with his boy Corey, Shawn wouldn't hesitate to jump in the ring to defend him.
Strengths: Angst, Leather Jackets
Weakness: Homoerotic friendships
Theo Huxtable
Theo, Bill Cosby's son from The Cosby Show, would be a good fighter. He was always the athletic one from the show and grew up to be a pretty big boy. I'd like to see him dance around to some trumpet music as somebody tried to land a punch.
Strength: Dreadlocks
Weakness: Colorful Sweaters
Joey Tribbiani
Joey was more of a lover than a fighter, but I would much rather put my money on him than Ross or Chandler from Friends. He was Italian, so he's got some Rocky genes in him, and just seems like he could go a couple of rounds with somebody.
Strengths: Pickup Lines, Heritage
Weakness: Intelligence
Hercules
This one was obvious. Hercules was born to fight.
If the great Kevin Sorbo could save villages from monsters and angry gods, I think a couple of oversized meatheads in the octagon wouldn't be any sort of a problem.
Strength: Club Wielding, Super Strength
Weakness: Sleeves
A.C. Slater
A.C. Slater was only the biggest badass to roam the halls of Bayside High. He was a wrestler, so you know he would be able to grapple with the best of them in MMA.
He'll take on any preppy that dares challenge him.
Strengths: Wrestling, Jheri Curl
Weaknesses: Zack Morris, Uptight Girlfriends
Jesse Katsopolis
Uncle Jesse, as he was most commonly referred to on Full House, was a tough guy who dropped out of high school and had to fend for himself for most of his life.
He may not seem very intimidating, but when it comes to his family, he will fight you.
Strength: Elvis Impersonations
Weakness: His Hair
MacGyver
MacGyver was all about non-violent conflict resolution, but I still wouldn't want to be on his bad side.
At least in MMA, he would be forced to only use his strength and not jimmy rig my shoelaces to explode on me.
Strengths: Rubber Bands, Glue, Paper Clips, Drinking Straws, any household item
Weakness: Guns
Clark Kent
Okay, so having Superman fight in MMA may not seem fair, but you have to admit that Dean Cain as Clark Kent in Lois & Clark had to make one of the wimpiest Supermans ever.
I want to see if he can get into the ring and prove himself to be worthy of the Man of Steel title that he wore so proudly during the '90s.
Strengths: Invincible, Heat Vision, Flight, Super Strength
Weaknesses: Lois Lane, Glasses, Deadlines
Mitch Buchannon
David Hasselhoff's character on Baywatch was iconic, except for the fact that I had to look up his name. I always just referred to him as Hasselhoff.
In a sea of beautiful women, the Hoff rose up to be one of the coolest characters on the show and someone that I would love to see try his luck in the octagon.
Strength: Chest Hair
Weaknesses: Humility, Slow-motion running
Walker, Texas Ranger
Does this even need an explanation? The only reason that Chuck Norris shouldn't fight in the MMA is because we want other fighters alive so we can continue to enjoy the sport.
Strength: Beard
Weaknesses: N/A
