Yankee fans, it is time to cross your fingers.
Mariano Rivera, the Yankees closer, had experienced soreness in his groin and could the entire Blue Jays series.
Missing the series does not matter, since the Yankees have a comfortable lead in the AL East over the Red Sox. The more important goal is for Mo to be healthy heading into the postseason because he will be a major part of wheter the Yankees make it far into the postseason.
"I've had groin issues, but this is new. It's the left leg, which is good because you don't push off that leg," Rivera said. "It just happened while I was pitching. It's nothing to worry about; we'll go day by day. I'll play as soon as possible."
Girardi had this to say, "It's a concern. You don't want to hurt him. "So we thought we'd give him a couple days and see if we can nip it in the rear end. I don't even know if I would call it a strain, it was just a little tight last night. You kind of give him a few days and see if he can get rid of it."
Rivera is having one of his best seasons closing leading the majors in saves 38, including 34 in a row.
Hughes will serve as the team's closer in Rivera's absence.
The last thing the Yankees need is suffering any major injury to any of their important pieces on the team.
